Texas; Exhibition of Acceleration citation, affects on insurance?
Hey everyone, I recently visited a friend who owns a GT350R, and he took me out on some country roads near his house (Killeen, TX area). Needless to say the R is a complete monster in the corners, but the E55 could keep up pretty well in a straight line. On our way back to his house, I received a citation for exhibition of acceleration. I don't think I was cited properly (the officer claimed he "heard" me squeal my tires although my friend - think 350R exhaust - was really the one getting after it at the time) and considered hiring an attorney, but after discussing with the court clerks have set that option aside. My goal is to not have this affect my driving record or insurance, and as I have not received a moving violation citation in over 4 years, figured I would just deal with it and do defensive driving. Upon calling the court, the clerk said this was input as a city ordinance violation and was therefore not going on my record in the first place, so there was no way I could do defensive driving to avoid the citation. I called back an hour later and spoke to a separate clerk who said the same thing, and then had her guide me to a list of ordinances that was listed on their website. Exhibition of acceleration was listed, so I am confident I am just being charged with a violation on the city ordinance, not actual state law.
My question is, does anyone have experience on the matter, or have familiarity with a citation like this and how it's reported? I know this is a question best left for an attorney, but for $164, I would rather pay the fine and move on!

In Cali that ticket is two points on your record and you can not take driving school. I've had one. Exhibition of Speed in California can even get you jail time and/or 6 months of a suspended license.
I'd plead not guilty and hope the officer doesn't show up to court.

1) it was a very small town, likely to have the officer available to show up
2) I confirmed it was a violation of city’s ordinance, nothing to do with my driving record or points.

Had a citation in 1998 rolling on Fort Bliss Tx after some PT with my 5.O GT ragtop, showed Gate Guard (Private First Class) my ID and he was giving me some **** so I peeled out in front of him. Too bad my government quarter were right next to the gate and ole boy walked over and hand me a "exhibition of acceleration" ticket. Didn't had to pay anything cause it was on Army installation, went to the Post JAG Office to clear it. I PCS two month later...
