Car forgot what gear it's in? Any one have this happen before?
So, when sitting stopped some where I frequently put the car in Neutral. I've had alternator issues and my voltage always sags lower than I'm comfortable with when in gear and stopped. So if I'm stopped at a light or anything extended I'll toss the car in neutral. At a Walgreens a few days ago waiting to drop off a perscription through the drivethough I tossed it into neutral a couple times as I waited. When I left I noticed the car wouldn't go above second gear. When I clicked up on the paddles it would it would show a higher gear but not shift. It would still go to park and neutral fine. I shut the car off and turned it on and it felt like it was in first and shifted to second but then no further. Threw codes P0715 and P0730. I disconnected the battery 10 minutes, reconnected, issue gone. Car is running great since. 60+ miles. Driving hard and shifting great.
I am wondering if putting the tranny to neutral may have done something that trick ****ed it if it was in the middle of trying to shift from 2-1 or something and made it go full retard? Any one ever seen anything like this before?

Just for curiosity sake just take a look at the TCU under the passenger carpet and see if any oil is making it's way in rom the harness.
Good that it corrected itself though.

Check and make sure atf is at the proper level, and as previously mentioned rule out fluid in the TCU.
P0730 will trip when the fluid is low and the gear selected doesn't match the actual gear.
You could also have an issue with the conductor plate, it will set similar codes and cause similar issues.

I had this happen before needing a transmission rebuild but luckily there are several more common much easier to fix reasons for it. +1 for fluid level, conductor plate and TCU contaminated.
