Hey all... I have a few questions. I just picked up a 2009 E63 today with 76K miles in great condition.
1. I need to replace the brake pads and rotors.. I don’t want to spend 3-4 hundred per rotor, but I don’t want junk either. For the pads I want low dust. What is a good middle ground brand and where to buy them? EBay? Amazon? My mechanic told me he could resurface mine, but have heard that this is not a good option.
2. Having a few issues with the home link... I held down buttons 2 and 4 and cleared the memory, but when holding down the button I want to program, it doesn’t seem to recognize the new remote. I have programmed a ton of these including my wifes C250 on the same door and remote I am having issues with, but this one just won’t take. The light won’t give me the rapid flash. Any ideas?
3. Rear sun shade on Pano roof... the front inner shade will open and close, but the rear is stuck open and I can’t seem to get it to move at all. I read somewhere about needing to syncronize these, but am just confused.
The rotors are made by Brembo for MB, look for the non branded brembo totors to save some $$. I used the regular street pads "Yellow stuff, or maybe it was orange stuff" They work well, no squeaking and low dust.
Homelinkk is a *****, I had to literally use the manual and ended up not using the first button, use the 3rd one.
Regarding the rotors, the decision point is do you want to keep the 2-piece rotors originally used on the E63s or go with cheaper 1-piece rotors. There are posts on this forum discussing this. If you stay with the 2-piece rotors the options are MB OEM rotors for about $1,000 each plus pads, or buy Brembo brand rotors (on eBay or other sites like FCP Euro or ECS Tuning) - see below eBay link, for about $375 each; or buy other 2-piece rotors from smaller manufacturers (do a Search for options). Non-Brembo suppliers range from Giro Disk $1,200/each to Racing Brake $610/ea
If you go with solid 1-piece rotors, the pricing is around $190/rotor & pads - $380 total package. Cost is much lower, but 1-piece solid rotors weigh about 7lbs heavier each corner
For pads, EBC sells ceramic pads that reduce dust (EBC Yellow IIRC). I wish Akebono made pads for the E63, but they don't unfortunately. I have 79k on my 09 E63 and will be buying rotors this year. Will probably go with the Brembo rotors and EBC Yellow pads.
Regarding the Homelink buttons, I was able to program my community gate to open as well as my garage door opener. I may have had to use the "learn" button on the garage door main opener motor as opposed to holding down the remote button.
You bought yourself an AMG, aka "All Money Gone" These cars are expensive to maintain, but regardless of how much your paid for it, it still retains the maintenance costs of a $100,000 car. I did a complete brake jobs to include rotors and pads for $1000 on my 07 E63. I got the exact OEM Brembo two-piece floating rotors off of ebay for $799, and the rear rotors (Pagid) which is a german brand from Rock Auto. My front and rear pads are from Stop Tech, and their Ceramic. So no brake dust...period. As for question #2, no impact no idea. For question #3, use this link
For reference Mercedes charges $1050 per front rotor, at my local dealership. That's $2K just for front rotors, not including pads. So do your homework and shop around for the best prices. AMG's aren't cheap to maintain, but if you use your brains, you can mitigate that expense.
Aren't low dust pads bad on rotors? I've read somewhere that MB uses softer but dustier pads so that the rotors last for longer.
I am pretty low on pads and will probably need to replace rotors and pads soon. I'll measure my rotors to see if I could replace just pads and be fine. I don't think the front rotors have ever been replaced by previous owners and I am at 60K currently. There is some lip on the rotors but they aren't warped.
Regarding the pano roof... The video tells how to reset the actual roof. My issue is: With the pano roof, you have two inner sunshades, one in front and one on back. The rear sun shade is in the open position and doesn’r move at all no matter what I do. The front sun shade and roof itself all work normally. Any ideas? Could it be a fuse, or perhaps the rear motor went bad?
Thanks for trying to help, but that thread talks about replacing the motor for the main glass roof at the front of the car. No mention about the sunshade in the rear... I would love to see pictures on how to replace the rear sunshade motor.
I would that your E63 into an independent MB shop, and have them give your an estimate to repair it, as I think that it is also the motor.
It might require either the headliner, or the entire panoramic roof be removed to excess it. I'm not sure which though.

I have purchased my 07 E63 from new, and have used both OEM and aftermarket pads. I'm of the opinion that OEM pads have a high silica content that gives great initial bite, but produces a lot of brake dust. And they can squeal like a pig often times. I use Carbon Ceramic pads, that doesn't have that great initial bite when applying the brakes, but don't give off any dust. And are very rotor friendly, and any dust that does accumulate can be washed away with a squirt bottle. I have used these pads since last April, and there isn't a sign of rotor wear thus far. No dust, no brake squeal....what else could you ask for.
