My luck or are the e55 trans are REALLLYYYY bad?
Hey guys I recently picked up a 06 e55 and about 12 hours later the trans blew out, i rebuilt it and now around 800 miles later “last night” same thing happened the entire guts of the trans leaked out anyone got any ideas? Maybe the 7speed from the 63?

It would be really helpful if you gave a description of what happened beyond “the entire guts” leaking out. What were the symptoms leading up? History of the car? Maintenance? These trannys are pretty stout and they didn’t use the 7 speed due to the torque demands of the M113k. So no, the 7 speed would actually be worse.

It spun around the TC right on the inputshaft and scored it make it leak heavily burnt up the clutches and mercedes put in a new one, the car is a 1 owner with full service history at mercedes benz. The car is tuned im thinking cuz i see no pullys, intakes, exhaust but the speed governer is not there and its as fast as my friends 15 e63s after 100mph.

Lots of guys putting these on drag strips built with slicks on stock tranny without issues. Obviously there are failure stories around but not a very common theme for sure.

Yes these transmissions have a good reputation for being quite reliable and very strong. Clutch pack wear is probably the most common failure I would guess, things wear out...

Pretty sure he means the 2007-2009 e63’s that have no turbos. He can hang with those as they have less torque than a stock e55.
agreed at stoutness ofvthese transmissions. They were built to handle torque of the v12 motors of early/mid 2000’s
