722.6 recent successes
Anyone RECENTLY had work done on the 722.6 and had success with the vendor? From my experience with 4L80Es, I know that you can monkey it apart and together - but there are very particular knowledge areas required to get the best out of the effort. It can be across the US, but Socal would be even better. I have seen the videos on youfacetube - I am looking for personal experience and success through the entire process of rebuilding and/or modifying the 722.6 with a trusted vendor.

I am my own vender LOL. I am a rebuilder buy trade. These transmissions are very easy to build but it is really knowing what you can and can not do. Like clutch pack clearance adjustments.
I am sure there is someone local that could help you out.

I believe I saw your posts on the 722. I am in San Diego and I would not trust the European mechanics here as far as I could throw them. At 100k miles I am thinking it just needs a clutch refresh and some new bearings and solenoids.

Doesn't really matter what is wrong with a transmission. If it need's a rebuild/repair you just fix it just like everything else on a car. Things go wrong all the time .....it's the nature of the beast !

What I need is someone I can trust. And the last area I don't do very much is an auto trans.

While your statement and my rebuttal is somewhat subjective, I would suggest you are wrong. 100k is much longer than whole cars lasted 30 years ago in many cases. 100k for a refresh on bearings, bushings, clutch plates, etc is perfectly reasonable.

I cannot help you with a local person to rebuild it for you. But I work almost exclusively with these transmissions. Maybe I can help. Why are you refreshing it. Are you having a problem? Are you just worried?

Thanks. Refreshing because I am refreshing the entire car. Engine out, rear subframe bushings, all suspension, deleting air tragic. More power. I break autos.

Well, if you want to ship it somewhere I can do it for you. But honestly you might just check on a stock reman unit from Mercedes if you do not like any of your local choices. They are 3500.00 and by the time you ship anywhere and pay for yours to be rebuilt it is pretty close to a wash. And you get the factory warranty. If you want more power capabilities and faster shifts then just add a valve body to it and you are good to go. Just for reference I charge 2800.00 for a stock rebuild with new bearings, one way rollers, clutches and seals for my local clients. That does not include a new conductor plate or anything for the valve body.

Thanks for your response. I already bought the conductor plate but have only just started hunting down the part numbers for the wear parts. Where does one get the valve body? I have modified VBs on 4L80E with directions.

i bought a brand new one from mercedes cus thats what the tech said i needed cus the car had a huge delay going from reverse to drive. But like i said after we tested it no change we removed it reinstalled the old one an since i bought it cant return it so he said i needed a whole new trans so i did that since they gave me a good deal on it cus i had bought a VB that i couldnt return an now stuck with it. Come to find out all that was needed was the shifting rod had to be adjusted properly so i was livid pissed to say the least. But i just repackaged the new VB back in the mercedes box and plastic wrap an its been sitting in my garage since i paid just under a grand for it. But id be willing to sell at a good price for anyone needing one i dont need it i got another new one with the new trans that came from germany lol.
