3rd brake light, license plate lights and trunk malfunction
Hey guys, So my car started to do something very strange. The trunk stopped working and now i have to open it manually. I checked the fuse in the trunk #11 and it seems to be fine. The lights inside the trunk are not working either. The third brake light isn’t working as well as the license plate lights. I did a search and found a thread where some experienced the same and there was a brown wire that snapped and once put back together everything was fixed. I removed the paneling on left side of the car and did not find any wires that weren’t intact or anything out of the norm. Sometimes the lights will work but the trunk has permnalety stopped working. It’s odd how sometimes lights work and sometimes they don’t. Any idea? Any help or input would be appreciated. Thanks, |
Have the rear SAM tested

The broken wires will almost certainly be just downstream of the driver side decklid hinge. Take the trim panel on the left side out at least enough to see what's going on, take the plastic off the hinge hardware to you can get to the wire harness, look at them right where they go into the hinge hardware and I bet you find busted wires there. I spliced a couple inches of extra length in there to try and give some strain releif.
lol, just scroll down to the related thread right here... |

As s.i.f.i. has already stated, I had mine fixed years ago, because of a broken wire. That caused my trunk not to open or close at times.
Over the years as these cars age, the wiring gets brittle, and not willing to flex anymore. But in the trunk hinge, the wires get bent back and forth until they break, causing a short. I bet you this is your culprit. :y |

My trunk close button on the lid wasn't working, followed the wires down drivers side and there was 3 wires cut. It will be on the curved hinge to your trunk lid. Most likely your situation as well.

Yep, that's right. Always broken wires.

If you have satellite radio check the coax cables also. |
