That is a plug that is installed in new airmatic components. It's installed to keep dirt and moisture out before the part is installed.

oh ok, thank you Benztech...so nothing to worry about then I take it. I do know looking over the VMI that the front air struts were replaced a few years ago, so maybe this piece got lodged in the bumper somewhere.
