Standard Airmatic struts on an AMG

My Front Left air bag seems to have sprung a leak on my 55 and I need to replace. Coincidentally my local shop just did a coilover swap on a 500 and still has a brand new front shock that the owner purchased before deciding on going the coilover route.

I know the AMG airmatic is supposedly stiffer than the non amg but will the unit fit and be useable? Or will it fit and be dangerous to have slightly different stiffness on each front corner? The car is not used for hard driving.

thanks in advance

It is best to replace them in pairs. You could get away with just one if using the exact same replacement part.

Thanks but unfortunately the previous owner of the car replaced the Right Front strut only 6 months ago, just prior to me purchasing it. Most likely with an AMG strut.

Do you think its unadvisable or worse to just replace the front left with a non amg strut?

Thanks again

I don't know the differences but I would assume they are different and I would buy a new one to match the other side. You can check the part numbers on FCP or pelican parts putting the two different cars in.

I think it would work fine.

I've replaced front left strut with aftermarket one, which suppliers have one strut type for all W211.

Thanks all, yes it would probably be less than £100 if I wanted it. Cheapest I can find an AMG unit for is £450.

They do sell just the bags rather than the whole strut for the non amg one though for around £230. Unsure why they don't do this for the amg models though as that would be my preferred choice.

i’m currently running that set up for 6 mos now, no issue here. I have AMG front strut on left and Arnott on right. I’d check to see if the 500 strut have ADS function. How much your mechanic charging You? You can get a reman Arnott for under $400 at Rock auto. Reman have ADS.

Thanks, what is ADS sorry? Also Arnott do AMG versions and non AMG versions so if you have one genuine strut and one Arnott AMG they should be compatible just fine. My issue is if one was AMG and the other not, which is likely to be more risky.

My mechanic would charge less than £200 for part and fitting so definitely very tempting if it'll work. Using a new part will cost at least £550 inc the labour

Active Damper System to enhance the ride and sharpen handling. The dampers can instantaneously adjust from soft to stiff in milliseconds, depending on conditions, allowing the E55 ride to be soft and comfortable during highway cruising, while firming up when the road requires high-performance handling.

As for AMG and Non, I'd check the part number and compare them if they're different. If it's me, 200 pounds is not bad and I don't think it'll make much difference. I can't tell. But that's just my untrained unprofessional opinion. Cheers!

I picked up an oem low mile l/f strut from a local - off of an 06 E55 . The part # on it is A 211 327 00 92 unsure if that's the revised strut or factory original ? Had a hard time on ebay a lot didn't have the amg yellow sticker / nor a good amg part # they gave me .

Got a set of these from rockauto for $1250 shipped for a buddy's car. Probably won't have time today to do both tonight so just going to replace the broken one and see how the car drives before doing the 2nd one.
