P0120 P0638 fix
Just putting this out there for general knowledge purpose on how I fixed my car and the symptoms it was having.
Any time I gave the car some quicker acceleration I would get an ESP fault visit workshop. Then I couldn't accelerate over 15mph. It jerked and would get itself up to 15mph with no foot on the gas. If I used the accelerator pedal it would just jerk more. For a little while, I was able to turn the car off, the fault would clear, and I would be on my way again, for normal driving only. Finally, the car would just fault out with the ESP fault and idle like there was a vacuum leak anytime I tried to restart it.
Code P0120 was pulled from a Snap on Scanner:
- P202E - M16/6 (throttle valve actuator) : Line mixed up/Position fault (P0120)
Code P0638 was pulled from BlueDriver (Bluetooth OBDII scanner)
- Throttle Actuator Control Range/Performance Bank 1
My fix...... I took the throttle body off the car, sprayed it down with brake cleaner, and wiped off any dirty areas. I did not remove the actuator from the throttle body. I let the throttle body dry, reinstalled, started and tested under full throttle acceleration. All good.
