Spring break Modding fun!!
Ok, guys, I've been going to school none stop for about a year now getting my NP at the ripe old age of 42 and the cars been begging for some fun attention. I figured it's been treating me right with no problems and running great so it was time to do some new mods to make it even better. So I have been thinking about what I wanted to do next and decided that I wanted to make it even more efficient and add a custom intercooler. Its a single pass with 3/4 inch inlet and outlet with larger side tanks. But alas this part is being built still and won't be ready for a week or so. In the meantime, I also had some ceramic coated 10mm thick intake spacers that are there to help keep the charger cooler. I also am one of east coast euros testers for the bypass delete and wanted to throw it in. So today I figured I would install all my mods except the intercooler this way if I don't like the bypass I can remove it when I install the intercooler. I will also be installing my 82mm TB back in and seeing if I can get rid of the p0106 code cause I really enjoyed the 82mm TB and while I have it all apart I decided to do some light port, polish and smoothing of the SC snout its all ready been moded for the 82mm but I know it can be improved not a lot there's not much material but I'll take what I can get.
So it went really smooth today but I didn't think to get a longer SC belt which won't be here til tomorrow but other than that it's all ready to go. I will be just plugging the bypass into the bypass and tucking it away for now at least till I get my new tune from Tony at race
clean engine ready for install
ceramic coated spacers
ECE bypass delete
spacers with home made guides so things stay lined up
spacers installed with my home made guides to keep everything lined up perfect
Even when fully closed the stock bypass isnt really that closed .... alot of light peeking through and this is a boost leak
looks good on the intercooler
ECE bypass fitted with new seal ready
mild porting of the snout
smoothing of the snout
mild smoothing of snout inlet
ECE bypass fits perfect
ECE bypass valve installed
IQ.

This is going to be a GREAT thread. Thank you for posting it. I just had my bypass go south, and am planning to tackle this job in the upcoming days, replacing it with a used stocker. Please feel free to share any tips and tricks you encounter along the way. I am also interested in the ECE bypass delete results.
Thanks again!

Ok the spacers are making a big difference in the temp of the supercharger i was a bit shocked as my laser temp gauge showed a 12 degree difference after a 20 min drive and it was 66 degrees today and the baseline it was only 59 degrees. Did the exact same trip as well to keep things as legit as possible.
Now the bypass blockoff i made sure to bleed the intercooler so as not to have any issues. First thing is reaction HOLY F***** CRAP!!! I can say u better be prepared the thing takes off like a raped ape much quicker into boost thats one plus .... second plus i gained 1.8psi of boost i always hit 8.5 nvr been higher i may even say a gain of 2 psi cus it was right there at 10.5. It pulls very hard ..... now there are some downsides iats are up significantly normally on 66 degree day im 18 to 20 degrees higher this time im round 32 higher no bueno. Also it shifts very weird like it disengages the supercharger for a sec then turns it back on not very fun. So for me i think ill switch back i prefer the lower iats and smoother mid throttle driving. But for those with better cooling system upgrades an fixed pulley id say this is well worth it. I am going to fiddle with the bypass a lil and see if i can make it seal better by fitting the plate better.
Stay tune for the other upgrades ill be doing soon as well. Feel free to ask any questions

Thanks for the update. The rise that you saw in the IATs were pretty significant. That combined with increased boost (even more heat) would make me thing twice about the bypass delete. I think you are making a wise decision.

The temperature differences for your block off, is that cruising or after like a third gear pull or something?
The temperature difference for your spacers, that's a 20 minute cruise than laser thermometer temp of the top of the SC?
Any chance you'll check out MPG hit from the block off?
Great work and thanks for all the info!

Yeah im going to tesg out the bypass a lil longer see how the mpg change i did a tank full an got an average of 19.6 mpg we will see i topped off the car and ill do a tank full with it in.
Same tune for both.

Were the temperature differences and the awkward shifting normal cruising or WOT, or both?

That's good, because then maybe it's just something to do with how the ECU normally controls the flap while cruising making things a little wonky at part throttle. Hopefully Tony can clean it up.
2 PSI without spinning the super charger any faster is a win in my book. Pretty much depending on the milliage hit, and if Tony can get a tune running on it. If those both are acceptable, even if you dont want more pressure(and heat) it may still be better to block it off, and then go to a larger SC pulley.
Anyways, very cool stuff. Can't wait for more updates.

I agree, if this is now sealing you should see that same 1.8psi increase when the flap is closed. As said as well with a proper tune for the delete might help things out with the jerkiness, however it seems no getting round the higher iats other than upgrading the cooling. Loving this thread!!!!!

Yep, as pointed out on another thread, you will see higher IAT's, jerkiness, and lower mileage. The supercharger bypass does serve a purpose. When you are cruising and not into WOT, the bypass allows the supercharger to basically free spin. Without it, the supercharger will drag on the engine and it takes a significant amount of power to constantly turn the blower. Now, the supercharger clutch can mitigate some of the drag but without the bypass you are trying to pull the air through the blower instead of around it so that will cause some issues too.
For racing, yeah, ditch the bypass valve. For a DD, you really need it for efficiency and cooler IAT's.

Well driving round last night stop and go as well as freeway and doing some more today bout half tank so far. Iats continue to stay round 30+ cruisng and wot hits high 130s in a 1-2 wot run.
Still have to try tuning for it but so far not getting much from the tuners in terms of thoughts or help.

Well that's a bummer. The tuning could definetly be the deal breaker. Has Tony gotten back to you at all yet? I sent him a couple of files to update for 82mm TB Monday and I havent heard back yet. Hopefully hes just working his way through a million emails after getting back from vacation.

Ok guys takin another stab at the 82mm tb so today before embarking on my continuing journey to check the mileage i decided to reinstall the 82mm adapter ring, 80mm ypipe, and 82mm tb. Went for a ride man i miss the extra the 82mm gives just drives sooooo much better stronger an faster an pulls harder longer.
Fingers crossed that i dont get the hiccup again maybe this time.will be different.
