I purchased an '04 E55 a couple of weeks ago. After months of searching I found the perfect one with all the options I wanted and more. I have a slew of maintenance items planned for the car to give myself a fresh slate. This past weekend I did rotors and pads all around as well as font thrust arms and lower ball joints. In the process of doing each of those, I removed the front speed sensors from the hubs (did not disconnect) and disconnected the SBC pump. Everything went smoothly, upon starting the car for the first time with the new brakes I got a couple SBC warnings telling me to visit the workshop and that I have reduced braking power. That went away after the second restart.
Since then the distronic sensor does not seem to be reading. It wont allow me to engage cruise control and after a few minutes of driving I get the "Distronic currently unavailable! see oper. manual" warning. I do not get any other errors, ESP seems to work perfectly fine.
I plan to get a STAR system to diagnose issues like this. However in the mean time, does anyone have any tips on where to look or what to try?
So it seems all I had to do was make a post asking for help... the car decided to work again all on its own. Distronic came back today on the way home from work
