Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90 in the diff

I spent a lot of time yesterday researching which diff oil to use, depending on what date the information what posted it had a different answer, Mercedes has been updating its fluid recommendation over the years and there is no clear answer on which fluid is best for your car. Then I ran across this article, http://www.lastgreatroadtrip.com/wp-...comparison.pdf

Shows that the Amsoil is superior to the Mobil1 and Castrol in the latest Mercedes recommendation. Picked up 2 bags of Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90 for my C55 for some pre-trackday maintenance.

Has anybody used this diff fluid in their E55?

Swapped the diff fluid over to the Amsoil on the C55, nothing negative to report, no noises or anything weird going on. The diff fluid drained had a lot of metal flakes so I guess I won't know the truth until 2 years from now when I do it again.

The test report above shows the Amsoil is quantifiably better than even Mobil 1, we'll see.

Time to change gear oil again. I'm running Royal Purple at the moment. Thanks for that. What have you got on motor oil?

0w-40 is what Mercedes recommends now for slightly better efficiency but 5w-40 is ok too, I haven't used anything besides Mobil 1. I switched to 0w-40 recently and didn't notice any difference as far as extra chatter on startup on cold mornings, I'll take that as a good sign.

I get my oil at Walmart in 5 liter jugs, $23 each here in Oregon, much better than paying $8 a quart at Autozone. NAPA and Advanced Auto Parts carries MANN oil filters for about $15, probably cheaper online.

That's what I do to. Except I get the filters on amazon several at a time.
