The vid that was posted by MSG 55 sounds pretty much like mine.

Also the description you posted as a “con” was spot on to mine. Great description on that!
Terry! When you compare similarity in your ARH sounds vs mine, you will create a “disturbance in the force”. You know my LTH is no where near your ARH and it’s caliber. Lol.

I’ll take it as a compliment and I thank you Sir! Hooah

Lol. Terry Got a good laugh from that!

I like like my sound when cruising locally or on the highway it's peaceful until it's WAO!

You might be right about the cats, a quick google around the internet showed that the 200 cell cats can make a whooshing/hissing/raspy sound.

Thanks for all the info. I am leaning towards the MBH LTH setup with perhaps x pipe and see how I feel from there.

A few parts came in last week...swapped in some DEPO clear bumper lights bought here:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Clear-Bumper-Side-Marker-Lights-Pair-For-2003-2006-Mercedes-Benz-E-Class-W211/172806837343

Highly recommended, takes 1 minute per side, cleans up the front end in my opinion.

Ordered from AZNOptics here on the forums license plate lights and parking lamps LEDs. I've ordered from him in the past - well made products, no error code, great white light output.

Took a weekend trip up to the Catskills for some hiking. The E55 definitely enjoyed the much cooler weather in the early morning drive up (60s) as well as the empty highways and back roads

I bought the car two weeks ago and have already put 900 miles on it (weekend drives!).
No leaks, smells, CELs, etc. so I'm a happy camper...
Tires and other parts should be in within the next few weeks.... then I'll actually have traction at WOT!

Contact AZN Optics on these forums here and ask for the license plate lights. They came in a couple days. https://mbworld.org/forums/members/1...zn-optics.html

The only thing is they are not a 100% factory fit. The factory bulb clips into the plastic cover and then you push that into the trunk where the bulb connects. With these you push the bulb into trunk first, then the plastic clip/cover second but otherwise works as OEM. When you take plastic covers off trunk lights you will see what I mean.

New parking lamp LEDs in also from AZN Optics.

Great quality LED light but the 6000k led is more blue than the 5500ishk xenon so doesn’t quite match. Still looks better than factory I suppose....

maybe ill I’ll switch to yellow a la W123 e-class or eventually get 6000k xenon bulbs...

Done this week
- OEM Satellite installed - super easy! I bought a Sirius receiver from an 06 E55 on EBay, it plugged right in, and I mounted my own Sirius antenna on the rear deck lid. Reception isn't the best under thick wooded back roads with it mounted like that, but fine on the highway.

- New Cabin Charcoal Filters installed - no more smell in the car - complete neutral air, just how I like it!

- Michelin Pilot Sport 4S ordered... 275/35/18 R 245/40/18 F

- Weistec Dry Air Filters ordered...

Coming soon:

- Custom Exhaust - I have read that for the E55, exhausts after the headers really just alter sound and do not offer much performance gains from factory. However, the car is too quiet for me!
A muffler delete is too loud/droney for me, and since the aftermarket options are expensive for a new kit (ex: $3k+ for a new German axle-back) I am considering doing some custom work by buying a used exhaust from a C63, or other AMG, and fitting it to the E55. I've found a used Meisterschaft GT exhaust, among others, from a c63 that will be easy to fit to the e55, since the muffler locations are very similar. PLus, at the used price + custom fit, will still be much cheaper than buying a new exhaust from the same manufacturer, but same quality cans... for example take a look at the exhausts for the c63 and E55... same size cans used, almost identical design. Just need to extend tips out... https://gthaus.com/product/mercedes-...-amg-v8-sedan/ https://gthaus.com/product/mercedes-...mpressor-2003/ -- then I plan to buy Long Tube Headers..

- Valve Cover Gaskets

- Spark Plugs (colder?)

Down the road:
Performance - aiming for 550rwhp
- Long tube headers - I think I am going to go with the MBH, although I found a "new" set of American Racing LTH+Xpipe for sale by a user on the forum for 1/3 off new price......

- Tune - trying to figure out who to go with. I am research the options and looks like Eurocharged or RaceIQ seem to be the current favorites...

- pulley, not sure which yet.

- Upgrade cooling - Larger pump, either the SLS pump or aftermarket + a H/E

- 550cc+ injectors - either the OEM "blue ones" or aftermarket 550cc+

Styling

- Lowering module

- metal pedal covers - OEM

- e63-style trunk lid spoiler (painted or CF....)

- Carbon Fiber Front Lip

- New Center caps for wheels - current ones faded (can't decide to go original silver backing, black backing, or silver/blue crest version...)

Weistec dry air filters went in this weekend. The ones in there were FILTHY! I think the fresh filters and cold weather over the weekend really allowed the car to wake up a bit - so funny how noticeable it is that the car prefers cold weather. With the new tires too, thing just rips....

Took a trip up to the Adirondacks for the weekend, ~4-5 hours each way plus a ton of driving on mountain roads. @0MPG avg over the weekend - not too bad... Still can't believe how few rattles there are on a 15 year old car with 140k miles...Our 2018 e-class has more.

Since I purchased the car on 7/31 I've put 2750 miles on it! No issues yet, has been a pretty good period to see the health of the car...

My RaceIQ tune has arrived, along with new oil (MOTUL 8100 X-MAX 0W-40) & valve cover gaskets. The old man will be "under the knife" within the next few weeks, including a trip to the dyno for some base / tuned numbers.

For the dyno, I am not worried about cooling right now. I have not yet seen the needle pass 90*C even on 90*F days sitting in traffic, an the maintenance history shows multiple coolant system services.
Also, I am pretty sure there is a new fuel pump in the car from when the gas tank TSB was done last year, I am not worried about that for the dyno - but I am considering swapping new spark plugs in beforehand....

From driving it this much in a month, I am pretty confident it will put up some pretty strong stock #s according to my butt dyno.... looking forward to seeing what happens.

correct me if i'm wrong but i believe the cooling concerns are more about the IAT than the engine itself. sounds like you've made a few pulls and not had a drastic loss in power so sounds like your ic pump is functioning fine.

what are the claimed gains of the raceiq tune? do you have a shop in mind where you'll do the dyno?

Re: Temps, maybe, but either way, I have been progressively driving the car more aggressively to see what happens and if any of the known issues come up. No issues with power after a few pulls on the "Autobahn". & just hit 141k miles after the weekend trip. Behaving very well!

Re: RaceIQ, they sent me a couple dyno sheets showing a stock + tune gain, as well as some other mods. The stock + tune sheet, plus what they told me, Stock + tune gains should be around 30-40rwhp and 60-70tq with just a tune.

I am also interested in smoothing out the power and will do datalogging as well to make sure the car is running healthy. I plan to add other mods down the road as well, including possibly their TCU tune.

Well, the RaceIQ tune is installed. Super easy process. I went with the Stage 1 tune + burbles / pops / bangs because why not (I also have stage 1 tune without them).

First impressions - can feel the adjustment in low-end torque for sure. Can also feel it more when downshifting to pass on the highway. Definitely woke the car up a bit.

The burbles / pops / bangs - sound cool, it's not too many pops like newer M3/M4 etc, this only pops at high RPM 4k+ on deceleration. It will decrease my cat life, however, so there are trade-offs.

Overall the price to add another few ponies and torque was well worth it.

Even with the stock exhaust + Weistec filters, car sounds great with the pops/burble. Will post a video later.

and they'll retune it for a small charge when you add other mods?

I'll try to post a video later today.

Tony said he will do live remote tuning for a $100/hr charge but I am unsure of the charge to make adjustments after sending them data logs.

Coincidentally it appears I now have a small exhaust leak on the midpipe somewhere so I need to patch that before going on the dyno. I doubt it's from the tune but possible revving it out for the pops and burbles could have exacerbated a small leak that was already there. No big deal, car still running strong.

I wonder if it will feel any different if I also reset the throttle mapping learning via "ECU reset"

Quick clip of the burbles / pops with the RaceIQ burble tune on a completely stock car besides weistec air filters - will get a better one later without the cricket concerto.

Had some quick fun on the Autobahn last night with a CLK63 AMG Black Series. The thing looked and sounded mean, was blacked out and definitely had a modified exhaust. Did a quick WOT pull while I was ahead and he couldn't close the gap.

The 63 black has 500hp / 465 torque stock (not sure if the car was stock, bc exhaust was loud), while I probably have around 510HP / 580 crank (based on the dynosheets RaceIQ sent me) -- I am hitting the dyno soon to see what the actual #s are)

That definitely put a smile on my face...

However hearing his exhaust reminded me that my E55 is too quiet!!

Took another quick video, damn crickets throwing off the recording once again... but this one I think shows the burbles / pops / bangs better.

Of course the sounds are not practical and dont add any more power than the tune without them, but I like that they only really "pop" if you rev it out to 4k ish, unlike other cars that pop even at like 1k rpm. That way it's not popping all the time...
