170 thermostat
Anyone know where to get a 170 engine thermostat ? Searched on line and only found 180's which I already have. PTE used to make them years ago.
Want it for the track only and need temps down a little cooler in the heat at the track before my run's.
I run a bypass on the fan to run at full speed but it won't drop below 180*.
Thanks

Well remember the thermostat will not "make" it run cooler....it is the air flow through the radiator. I run a fan bypass switch so I can bring the temp down to 170 if I want as long as the thermostat is set there. If it was 190 than that is as low as it will go.

Also, if you go less than (180),
ECU will through codes, and will not that help,
prefer not go below (180)..!,,

I have the 180 now and know the 170 will trip the light but my problem is I am trying to keep temps down as low as possible before my run. sometimes I am stuck in the staging lane for 30 min. as temps just keep going higher and higher.

Ah ok, thanks for the sound advice. I got the heatsoat that spoken about in the forum the other day. I was pushing the car pretty hard and after 45mins or so, I had a loss of power on acceleration. Guess I need to upgrade my heat exchanger? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PLM-Heat-...53.m1438.l2649

The main issue is the heat exchanger that reside under the supercharger, is and always will be heat soaked due to it's location.
Inside the hot V. And as others have mentioned, a good IC pump and heat exchanger can make all the difference.

Cooler thermostat
I did not see any replies identifying a source for a 170* ( or cooler) thermostat for the m113k, and my internet search has not brought any success either, so I assume 180* is the coolest thermostat now available?

I have never seen a 170 thermostat for this engine. Just a few years ago a 180 was a custom piece. If you put some time into it,a stock one can probably be altered to a 170. Thats where the 180 started.

Lower coolant temps will not put a cel on the dash, it will throw a code you can see in STAR.
main thing is to separate the supercharger from the heads. Phenolic spacers are great for that and insulation in between the block and supercharger.
Unfortunately for everyone you can’t buy them, well you could years back, and if you want someone to make them $$$. With some research into CTS V world and time you can make them for nothing.
Higher coolant temp means higher oil temp which is good for your engine and power. Take your car out and rip it after a cold start after 10 minutes you're down on power regardless of iat, due to supercharger being 200 degrees.
There is so much 10 years ago someone on the forum said this holding this platform back.
P.S. Akebono pads are garbage

I have the spacers on the supercharger and intake tanks and test with a thermal gun shows at least 40-60 degree difference compared to the blower. But....after a longer drive and plenty of heat soak that margin closes up pretty good.
But for me when just concerned with cooler temps before my 1/2 mile run they work perfect.
