.... the new M5. i dont want another fight here, E55s are great and all that. but i just want your opinion on how you feel about the new m5s arrival. i dont want to know if you think its ugly or beautiful. i just wanna know if you feel intimated by it, or relieved it isnt faster purely on the spec basis. how do u think ur e55 stock can compare to this.

Why is it that so many threads on the E55 board are about the M5? If the threads here are any indication, E55 owners spend more time thinking about the M5 than about anything else. Is that true?

I know lots of these threads are started by people who aren't E55 owners or even prospective owners. Most are obvious trolls. But the owners take the time to respond, over and over, to these M5 posts.

Are E55 owners always shopping for the next überwagen, so that they are earnestly trying to participate in a dialog about the relative merits of the other options?

Or are they insecure about their choice of cars, so that they have to justify it to themselves?

really, who cares now?!? maybe if this was the first time this topic had been brought up, it could be ok....but wtf! Havent we beaten this bmw mercedes thing to death? And if my memory serves me right, didnt you get banned once for begining a topic similar to this up? If you think about it, why would a person need to be intimated by a car. Its just a CAR! 2) I strongly suspect that the '87' represents his birth year (making him around 17 years old).

3) He posts the same things over and over trying to get attention, but his questions have no intrinsic value and he has no personal driving experience with which to construct any arguments or opinions.

C'mon Jdub. You do want a fight. But I will trreat it as a serious post.

I just got my E55. I knew about M5. But I still got the E.

I liked it. It has good acceleration -- excellent accelration. But there is more ot a car than acceleration. How often in my daily driving -- I don't race -- will I floor it? I like the feel of its suspension. I like the feel of the engine. Obviously I have not driven the next M5. But I did drive the M3 and an older model M5. In the former, gear changes felt sluggish to me -- in `automatic' and I like automatics. I did not like hte feel of the previosu M5. Getting to 120 a half second sooner is not important to me and I am not going ot take sharp curves at 100 mph -- actually I hear the M5 and the S55 has about hte same skidpad numbers and I did not like the S.

If you look at hp and torque curve of new M5, it hasn't improved from the previous M5 unless you go over 6k rpm. Where would you use that high rpm pick up if not at the track?? Those two cars may be in the same league but for different taste of people. Some people like high revving sporty engine or handling of a sports car but other people opt for more torque in low range and comfy. Mercedes engineers aren't stupid enough to let BMW beat them, they make cars for their customers.

I could care less if the new M5 is faster, handles better whatever. I am happy with my E55. It works for me. Yes I am interested in cars obviously, but my life is not defined by my car. I certainly don't spend any time worrying that another car might be faster or handle better.

I guess 7 speeds would help to keep the engine spinning some what, and you can't tell me that you haven't drive in the upper 25% of your engines rpm range on occasions, you don't need a track to achieve this atleast not in the first few gears where you can do it without being thrown in gaol.

Also I suppose it depends on what you mean by beat them.

Jdub87 knows which button to push and he keeps on doing it. He is having a field day with us. Him and his buddy are probably sitting in front the computer and laughing their *** off because they assumed we AMG owners are somehow insecure comparing to the M cars. Unfortunately we keep on replying to his post( including myself now ) and he keeps coming back like a bad rash. Can we all ignore his post from now? Maybe he will go away for good if we all don't respond to Jdub87.

If you want to talk about the M5 - Go to the BMW board!! We here on the MB board had the money to buy whatever cars we wanted and we all decided on the E55. NOT the M5 - That says it all!!

For the record - There were 5 seperate comparos in '03 pitting E55 & M5 against other Big$ Sedans and the E55 beat the M5 4 different times in different magazines. Get over it-Move On-and feel the FORCE!!!
(That's Tq BTW) You'll be alot more enlightened when you do!!

You can't ask for people's opinions after first telling them not to comment on the ugliness. It's like pointing out a gorgeous girl and an ugly girl and saying, forget looks. Which one would you rather have? But worse, cause we're talking shelling out many thousands of dollars. Some day, when you get a nice job and save your nickels and dimes, you too will be able to purchase a nice automobile. It might even be the car of your dreams. If someone then comes along and denigrates your choice and asks why you didn't buy some other car, you'll then realize how your post comes across to us.
