I couldn't get the top off without prying it with a slotted screw driver. But I did it in situ, taking it out of the tank is advisable

No way I want to do that while the filter is in the tank. It was still a minor PITA out of the tank. Once the top starts to lift from the body a flat-blade screwdriver used carefully would assist in removing the top with less effort. I just went all "Hulk" on it and used my hands.

LOL Just got to be careful no to get splashed with the residual fuel in the sender bowl. The entire job is a PITA but not really difficult. If that makes sense

Pulled the back seat off and checked the tops of the fuel tank, found that the passenger side electrical connector was filled with fuel and probably shorted out the relay and the fuse.

The replacement for the leaking plastic piece is $500+ but seems kind of silly to replace two working fuel pumps, a sending unit and a filter when everything is in working because some plastic is leaking. Has anybody successfully fixed the leak with a sealant? If so what kind is safe for fuel?
just went through the same exact situation on my 03 e55. was out of warranty by 45 days. I wanted to cry

I bought the $1000 FCP euro e55 fuel pump kit...and paid a private Benz shop to install it

imo this is your best option if you plan to keep the car more than a couple years

Sorry to revive an old thread. Has anyone in Canada had luck and had the 25 year (USA) vs 15 year (Canada) sbc warranty covered ?

I’ve got a 2006 cls55 and the sbc unit has leaking fluid from the top. Looks like it could be from the hose attachment on top. Very minor. Odd.

Mine was replaced in May this year (under warranty) on my 2005 CLS55. I needed to get it diagnosed by an official MB dealer who then ask for authorization to replace it under warranty

Thank you! I’m curious if anyone in Canada was able to have that covered under the 25 year warranty. Seems that Canada only has it offered up to 15 years.

Thanks guys
