The Motul website lists the x-cess gen 2 as service SP, but the pictures shows SN.
Is it just a new formulation and they have not updated pictures yet?

Just did this on my 13' E63 w/ 93k miles. Huge difference right off the first start up! Much quieter, quicker/smooth start up, transmission shifts are predictable.

2015 ml63 amg (w166/m157) | 2015 g550 (w463/m273)
in case anyone cares, i wanted to share my experience so far with experiment of switching to 5w50 on a 2015 ml63. actually, i also switched g550 to 5w50. for background, my main interest in this experiment is to improve transmission shifting, particular with cold engine. i did the gradual switch over: rain about half 5w50 for 1500 miles and then switched to full 5w50 using red line oil.

it's a only being a few hundred miles and what i seemed to immediately notice is how much smoother the engine seems to run. none of this is based on scientific data. the vehicle just seems to float more. it's like suspension improved because motor just seems smoother. the experience is that vehicle seems to accelerate to high speeds with less effort and, that is probably not real and probably related to sensation of running smoother. maybe? 150 mph feels much less uneventful and seems to arrive unexpectedly. "whoa. we're already at 140". without the 155mph governor -which seems to allow 160mph, engine would probably comfortably allow 170+ mph. it feels like engine isn't working as hard. driving hard feels less strenuous on the engine which seems to motivate me to drive harder. also, acceleration feels more responsive, like less turbo lag. vehicle feels more enjoyable to drive. i seem to have less of this noticeable difference with the g550.

however, the main objective for participating in the experiment seems unchanged. it does not appear that shifting of m157 engine has improved. i'm still hopeful that in time it does improve? according to cali, the ecu is learning and should make adjustments. hopefully. regardless, i intend to keep running 5w50 in all vehicles.

again, absolutely not a scientific testimony. so, don't believe anything that i say.

I was real close to doing this but was worred about long term and the fact that the alumium gears are pressed on with a lot of force. My thought proccess was the gear could splt do to the pressure of being so tight on the shatf.
On my last engine build I took a chance and had the gears WPC treated and it was fantastic. The pump was VERY quiet for a long time and it was very strange after all the years of hearing it to not be their.
But then..............I dynoed the car and from that point forward the noise was back, not as loud but back. I have no answer to this whine coming and going with my engine or many many others.
By the way I have installed three different pumps on various engine work and samr thing !!!!

Nice found. It says for E55 so I wonder if W212 M157 E63 can use these gears. Anyone know if they also fit?

Gary (SICAMG) we recently assembled a 113k engine. Bought a new MB oil pump for it. I guess we will see what the oil pump whine is like once we run it.

It’s going to be a while though, we still have a lot to do to the car before we install the engine.

T ....it is really a baffling noise to say the least and I can add more fire to it LOL .The last time my engine was out I decided to have the gears WPC treated and it made a HUGE difference to say the least.
Then after 7-8 months I dyno the car and low and behold the noise got much louder. Then as I drive the car for about a month the noise is cut in half so what could possibly be going on "mechanically" in the engine to make this happen ? And this is coming from me that has had my engine apart 4 times and 3 different oil pumps !! Very strange.

When I first bought my E, not knowing these cars I was concerned about it. My son told me it’s normal and I finally got use to the noise. Although mine isn’t super noisy but the car only has a little over 60k miles.

I have heard others in vids that seem really loud. It is weird how the whine changes like you’ve described. The way I see it, if the engine is running great, no knocking, and internals aren’t trying to exit the block, it’s gonna be fine. 😂

If anyone ask me that’s just extra whine from the SC. 😂

I would love to install those aluminum gears that XF Motorsports makes but something about that aluminum to steel press fit, really hard press fit when you watch him do it, with no keyway bothers me although there is no pressure at all since it just dumps the oil back into the pan. Just over thinking it to much as usual I guess but I'm tired of the noise as mine always seemed to be louder than most.
Like I said in earlier posts when I had the gears done at the first 700-800 miles it was like driving a whole new car and I was amazed how quiet the engine was.
My car exhaust is also very quiet too so that doesn't help my cause with covering up any noise from the engine. LOL

Only slightly off-topic - any ideas where to mount an oil pressure gauge on my RHD C350 W204. Something that looks reasonably original fit rather than looking out of place.

Views welcome please ? Is there an A-pillar mount for the W204 RHD ?
