Excited to have a reason to post here, hopefully will be hanging around the AMG section more depending on the feedback I get from the below.
While picking up my '97 E200 from my local Mercedes dealership, I happen to notice quite a unique Pre-Owned specimen. An '07 E63 with 52K miles on the clock that I've managed to knock down to 17K USD. I've attached the DataCard for you to see. From my knowledge of the W211 (had my '06 E350 for more than a decade now) it's missing Distronic, Pre-Heater, Power Trunk & Rear Heated Seats. Other than that it's absolutely loaded and has Designo exterior & interior. Wood has been wrapped in Carbon Fiber (I plan to replace this with the original wood from an eBay set so not a big issue). Interior still has that strong leather smell, absolutely stunning.
It needed new Air Struts & front brakes/rotors and these were recently completed by the Merc dealership prior to putting it on display. Test drive showed absolutely nothing but sheer power and stability, no squeaks, rattles or obnoxious sounds.
I'm aware the M156 has head bolt issues and I've asked them to inspect if it has the old vs new style bolts and split the cost of repairs accordingly. Labor Hour is 82$ USD/hour so this won't be that big of a cost.
What should I be checking? The PPI was done and what was found was fixed above minus minor cosmetics issues.
I already find the E350 plenty fast but that AMG surely is something else, I'm quite calibrated to Mercedes repair costs (having completely restored the E200 & E350) and from what I've seen the AMG differ mainly from the rotors , suspension parts & engine parts. Nothing too heavy based on the prices I've checked.
What do you guys think? Shall I pull the trigger and join the club? I don't plan to mod it at all, but plan to maintain it like all my other Mercs and keeping it in a clean stock state.
Things that need changing:
- Right Mirror LED Is cracked
- Front Fender has a small scratch
- Headlamps need polishing
- Carbon Trim to be replaced
Why is the door panel and seat color different? Is it just the picture? The door seems to be a darker, more orange color leather.
The driver's seat seems to have more wear on it than 52k miles. Could just be poorly taken care of I suppose.
The CF interior seems very well done, even the steering wheel has CF on it. I am sure this was an expensive job and that changing it back may also be expensive if you desire to do such.
It is strange to see an E63 with the clamshell armrest. Perhaps these came standard on very early models only sold in Europe; in the US all of them, even the early 2007s, had the sliding armrest.

Door Panels and seats do match the yellow pastel look, image came out weird on that front. Good eyes though Other than the driver seat everything else looks pristine and in-line with the mileage.
I've already found a few complete wood sets on eBay.de, nothing bank busting in the low three digits, might also decide to keep the carbon, not a very big issue there.
As for the clamshell armrest, that sliding armerest was purely destined for the US market. All W211s ROW had the clamshell design until the end of their production run.

Well researched; I do think this is a good deal then. Let us know what happens!
Yeah, that's a good deal. Take care of the headbolt in advance. The brakes and suspension will suck when the time comes, but the joy will definitely outweigh that. Grab that thing.

With new struts in the front and new brake rotors/pads up front as well shouldn't be a problem for a while!
Well guys this is very encouraging, I'll kick off the headbolt inspection and do it accordingly!
My jump from an E200 to this will be quite the thing!
😂 Will keep you posted! In the meantime please don't hesitate to continue the discussion!
CF wrap looks good, but you can peel wrapping off if you don’t like it. I can probably muster you up a set of wood trims and center console roll/scroll With cup holder (converting) for around $120-$150 total if you’re interested. Let me know...
Surprisingly good condition for a car driven in Saudi for 12+ years (!) -or is it imported from Saudi? Shame that these X12 DESIGNO PASTEL YELLOW SINGLE-COLOR LEATHER do not have suede inserts like most AMG seats do. On the other note - seats are "dynamic" - check if that still works!
Also, good that the dealer saved potential buyer around $4k+ in parts if you consider local market prices (if disks were actually replaced, and not only skimmed). I only been to merc dealer in Dammam once - they quote each disk separately, just after initial shock when you hear the price, they usually ask "so... do you need two?" ;-)

Car owner imported the car to Lebanon and sold it to the dealership down the line. Not sure how much of its life was spent in Saudi however Oil change intervals date from the 40K miles mark show in a small booklet in Lebanon. Checked the seats, they do actually work to my great surprise to be honest!
That's part of the Excel sheet I compiled when I first took notice of the car. So yea pretty sweet savings. Rear Brakes/Rotors aren't an issue at all.
Try to post some pictures soon, I have my personal set that I removed from my 2006 E55; bird eyes black oak (???). Id keep the CF wrap though, it adds a touch of modernism to our aged trims. Your trims might still be in good conditions, most 14-15 y/o trims gets faded; especially the front ones from the sun.
Just do the center console conversion, I can CF wrap the scroll but not sure if I’ll match you current CF.

Have black scroll as well
I'll keep this on my mind if a switch is to be done. Much appreciated!
His interior trim doesn't look like a CF wrap to me, it way too shiny. I had my wood trim interior completely removed, and shipped off to AZ to have the wood removed and hand laid genuine CF installed. This whole process took almost two months. And if you look closely his interior trim looks just like mine.
I will say this if this is the vehicle that you want go for it, but prepare yourself for the added expenses of owning an AMG.

That does look gorgeous indeed! Much nicer than what I've seen on that E63. I'll go check tomorrow to understand exactly what is it! I Just hope it's wrapped, the original wood is designo, I'd love to have it back. In case it isn't wrapped...what could it be? Did the E63 ever have a carbon fiber option from the factory?

Yes the Designo E63 did have a optional Carbon Fiber interior, along with an Alcantara Steering Wheel, with 2 piece wheels a LSD rear end and the speed limiter set to 186 mph. I believe it was the P30 package. My first E63 was a Designo series.
the carbon fiber on your car looks top notch if it wasn't factory. leather color is a bit blah. car overall looks in decent shape. you can buy replacement headlight covers i believe. head bolts, updated lifters, resealing all gaskets, replacing o-rings, etc, factor that cost into your ownership as if you plan to keep the car i'd highly advise this work be done. you never want a surprise, and should look to do preventive maintenance not problematic maintenance. with the work done to my engine as preventative, my car i could easily go another 100k.
My seats have small parts of alcantera near my shoulders, maybe its part of the P030 package? I just thought it was on my steering wheel as part of the package. Weird color combo, I have only seen black and tan. Tan always having wood trim. One of the issues in hot weather is cam wear on the intake side, the recommended oil is too thin, Tasos uses something else, if you can have a mechanic remove the valve covers and inspect the top cam lobes for wear it might save you in the end. Cool cars, but you need to check a few things or have the $$ to fix them if needed.
It's funny, I never realized that the seats in my Designo Edition E63, didn't have the Alcantara on the seats at the shoulders. I assuming that the Designo eliminated that. As my current E63 does have it.
Another wacky one; my P030, carbon fiber, pano roof E63 doesn’t have backup sensors or power trunk. My car wasn’t ordered for a customer, we found it at the Reno dealer and the friend that ran MB there called us to come look at it. Sticker price was $120k because it had some add-ons like clear bra, etc. I don’t have that add on sheet because I was gifted the car a couple of years ago and it’s missing. My car sat inside of a couple of airport hangers, so it’s in good condition and 33k miles. The customer paid $99k, we researched the M5, S63, S6 and ended up going with this car.
I thought the power open/close trunk was a standard feature, I honestly didn't know that you could buy an E63 without it. Or maybe just maybe yours is broken?

I can confirm this E63 I'm looking at does not have the power trunk buttons anywhere. Doesn't even show in the build sheet as attached in my first post.

Wow........ For the money you paid when these cars were brand new, how could you not fit a power trunk. Crazy
