Location of Radar Detector dispay

I just got an Escort SRX (from someone else on the list). Where do you suggest I locate the display unit? Pictures would be nice.

That's why I went with the V1 etched into the mirror. It was difficult finding a spot that didn't look aftermarket. I came real close to getting the SRX, because it is a excellent unit. I just wanted as much stealth as possible. I've seen some pics of a BMW install and it was right on top of the steering column. Do a search here, I think Pablo in the CL forum has some pics of his BEL unit, which is identical to the SRX

What a waste of an install if they replace your car!

I just have some questions:

Do you have any photos of your install?

Where is the detector located? Is it also located in the rear view mirror along with the display?

Did you do this yourself or did you have it done somewhere? If so, how much did it cost?

Thanks.

My BEL unit is mounted on hte undersuface of teh flip-up cover for the ashtray - I can discern the type of alert from the sound (The BEL will also talk to you {annoying IMHO}), and then quickly glance down after slowing. Worked like a charm this past week after a long trip - radar detection adn a rear laser jam - NO tickets !!

Actually for the Valentine, if you use the remote display unit, it will fit nicely in the ash tray cover right in front of the lighter unit. With that location, the lights will be out of the way from outside drivers. The main unit is then usually located high up on the windshield where the rear view mirror is.

t-bone, I can e-mail you a photo, not sure how to post here. The actual detector is in the rear deck lid. Just the display is etched into the mirror. Finally, being barely able to hammer a nail, there is no way I did this myslef LOL. The V1 display has also been wired to be my display for the Lidatek laser jammer. It was not cheap. A brand new V1, lidatek LE-30, and installation was $2,700

Laser detector

I'm thinking I need a Laser detector. My speeds on the interstates hover around the 90-100 mph mark. It's such an easy cruising speed. I have a Valentine 1 but one State Cop with a Laser could make for a very bad day.
Any suggestions/experience with Laser detectors? Where do I get one and which is best?

Huh ? Do you have a really really old Valentine 1 (series 1 from 8 years ago ???) or what ? All valentine1's from the last several years have laser detector capability. It's on par with the best detectors out there for laser eventhough laser is hit/miss with the instant on method of use. So, not sure what you're asking here. . . .

anthem is right. The laser detector on the V1 is quite good. (It's also good at detecting the third brakelights on newer GM SUV's, but that's another story.) The problem is that most often your laser warning just tells you what the trooper used to write your ticket. In Ohio, the Highway Patrol never uses radar or laser until you are right on top of them and it's too late. However, I have twice received laser warnings in Michigan on my V1 that saved my butt. The first was in 2003 going to the Detroit Auto Show. The guy in front of me was driving a big SUV and was blocking my view. I got the laser warning, hit the brakes, and comfortably drove by the local sheriff. My palms got a little sweaty when he pulled out of the median right behind me, but he just went around me to pull over the SUV!

laser detector = ticket. You need a jammer.

You guys are right, my Valentine 1 has a laser detector. Problem is that on many occasions when it goes off......it's too late. What I need, and meant to ask about is a radar JAMMER. Do they work and if so who sells a good one?

here is my stealth install w/ a V1. Its in my C32 and I have the actual unit just to the right of my rear-view mirror and it is hardwired. The power I believe is coming from a power source from the glove box.

Roseylv
p.s.
The white spot in the pic is just a sticker on my windsheild and it also kind of serves as a visual block out of the stealth unit.

New owner of a 2001 E55 and a Valentine one here. Anyone else find that the plug for cig lighter is too long? Or the cig lighter hole is too shallow if you want to look it at that way.

Chris,

I would also be interested on how you did yours. I have a V1 unit on my M3 now and was thinking of using on that on the e55. If you could email pics
at tj@twcompetition.com, i'd appreciate it very much

I dont get how "stealth" using the remote display is. You still hvae that big contraption hanging by rear view mirror!

Im gonna go the way of Chris' install. Chris, do you have a pic of the the thing in the rear deck? I saw the one on their website from the SL, so im assuming that its similar. I'll prob have them install my velodynes in a year or so too. Hate having them collecting dust.

I don't have a pic of the actual V1 in the decklid. I can't find it! I hope it's there, LOL. Whose website did you see it? Was it technik? I know the other way to do this is to build a "pod" in the headliner and mount it in there. May get a little better sensitivity, but it probably costs even more as they now have to match your interior.
