Vrp 80MM reliability

So here we go.

The VRP 80mm pulley and tune, anyone have any experience? Everything seems too good to be true. From ease of install and power numbers, to no need to upgrade the cooling system etc. Has anyone done this upgrade? Any long term problems? Anything else I should know if decide to go down the rabbit hole? I have a car I absolutely adore. I don’t wanna start hating it cause I did something i shouldnt have.

You will need to upgrade your heat exchanger. Have not heard anything bad about their pulleys. Most pulley failures were early on designs.

I was emailing one of their reps and they said this is the smallest I can go without doing a heat exchanger upgrade. You have an 83 from what I can see. Did you have a problem with over heating? Or did you do an upgraded unit and didn’t risk it?

Nah, upgrade the pump and heat exchanger right away as well.

yes I have the 83.7 or 84mm pulley on stock cooling. Any pulley smaller needs a heat exchanger upgrade. Hot summer days I can go WOT for about 15 seconds after that it will start to pull timing. It has worked for me because I don't do back to back runs. But this spring I'm doing cooling because I'm jumping to the 77mm. The car runs so well I have kept this pulley for 4 years.

80mm will not adversely effect your reliability, we pair the 80mm in our "stage 0" kit, which we feel is how they should have come from the factory. You will need a tune so get the Pulley tune combo. Discount code: "Take5"

Even stock cars should have an upgraded heat exchanger and the updated Bosch pump.

what’s included in the “level 0”? Just the pulley and the tune? In the heat of summer on normal driving am I gonna over heat? If I’m merging on the hwy and I hit WOT am I gonna have a problem? The car isn’t abused. It’s a daily driven commuter that goes 5-10miles a day and 40-50 on the weekends. (I have the luxury of living 2.5miles from work and we use the wife’s car on the weekends for the kids)

If you are upgrading your pulley then split cooling, HE and new aux pump should be going with it. Without having a split cooling you just jeopardize you engine with too high temperatures since it's all in one circuit.
I just finished "my stage 2" upgrades which included 7 gallon trunk tank Rule 3700 pump, HE, secondary HE, new Bosch 010 pump, 76mm VRP pulley, thermal gaskets etc. All can be found at : https://www.instagram.com/pandy.e55/
VRP team is very helpful, especially when you shoot them a message thru Facebook, few minute replies ( EVEN 11PM ET). Very helpful when I was working on my build. Great customer service.

It isn't a circuit, there is barely any mixing. It is two separate circuits connected by a hose. Splitting doesn't help like it does with some of the other models.

The C32 and SL55 have return hoses for self bleeding. I don't know for sure about the other supercharged cars but I think most of them do. The E55 doesn't.

Gates K080505HD is what VRP gave me - for an 80mm, no BWK, stock crank, stock tensioner.

I've seen three VRP pullies that had rivets come loose, including the 72mm I currently have. I just pushed them back in and used a punch on the end to dimple it more then haven't had an issue again. Just my experienced. No issues over many years other than that.
