E63 M156 charcoal secondary intake filter source?
Greetings:
I have been chasing the lean bank 1 idle CEL for 2 years on my 2007 E63.
The intake manifold has been removed, checked for flat deck and reinstalled twice, at least once with new gaskets and bolts. Obviously the mix adaption was reset each time in the ECU (stock tune).
The P0171 / P2070 CEL persists.
I noticed that the PO removed the secondary charcoal intake filters; I'd like to try the charcoal filters to see if they eliminate the CEL.
While I have found references to a Mann part # (AE28020611140A), I can't find a source for replacement filters.
My understanding is that MBZ doesn't consider the filter a servicable part and only supplies them with new intake boxes.
Does anyone have a lead on sources for replacement filters?
Thanks - Rocket88

This place is a joke.
Your diagnosis doesn't make sense. The charcoal filters cannot cause a lean code. Even if they did, both sides would be affected. How many miles on the car? Have you replaced the primary O2 sensors? P0170 is suspicious. Have you checked the intake for leaks and corrosion? Have you checked for exhaust leaks? Have you checked or replaced the crankcase vent valve under the right rear of the intake? Have you checked fuel pressure? Have you swapped injectors from left bank to right. Have you taken the car to a knowledgeable repair shop for the problem?

I agree, I’d look at simple things like vacuum leaks, clogged injectors from ethanol fuel, or the intake leaking, etc. I pulled the charcoal filters and haven’t received any codes, but if the air filter system isn’t seated correctly then it could give you problems. Running 2 cans of sea foam in the fuel helped my car. My car sits a lot and it probably had clogged injectors. I now make sure I add 1 can of injector cleaner per tank and I only use non ethanol fuel. My 2008 E63 has less than 34k miles on it, so it doesn’t get tons of freeway time.
