Strong Fuel odor inside E55b after fillup
Yes I realize there is a lot of threads on this, but none of them are all that recent and some have different symptoms then mine.
2006 E55, 132k miles. Ive owned it for about 5k and have frequently noticed that sometimes after a FULL fuel fillup, the inside of the car absolutely reeks of gasoline for days. The smell eventually subsides and is no longer an issue, but this morning it was so bad I was afraid if I reached for my cell phone I might explode. I see there is a sticky that covers a "fuel tank recall". Should I pull the rear seat and check it out? What is covered under the extended warranty? I'll fix it myself if I have to but Id much rather the dealership do it if its covered under the warranty. Any other things I should check? Car runs and drives fine and does not have any external leaks that I can see.

Agreed - it's the fuel tank issue. I had my fuel tank replaced on my 2006 under warranty a few months ago - before it got totaled - (took a little while to get parts). $0
Mine only smelled when new fill up and then drove home. after fuel level was 7/8 or lower, no smell. Sounds like exact issue.

Did you just bring it to the dealer and tell them about the issue and they were familiar with it? I didnt see any official documentation from MB like i did with thew SBC module.

Yes take the rear seat out and inspection cover off but it is 99% probable you have a leak around the top hat seal, there is a crack in the top hat or a leak through the electrical connector. If you are in the USA then take it to your local dealer while it smells like fuel. Tell them you would like it fixed under the recall... please.
If you are outside the USA you are on your own but it is not a hugely difficult job. Just expensive parts. The dealer will replace the tank and everything in it. If you DIY then the tank is likely unnecessary just everything in it.

I've made an appointment at the dealer to see if they will take care of it for me.

This place is a joke.
Easy compadre. Did you not read my post? That sticky was the first thing I read but it is dated 2014, and I wasn't sure how much of it would still be applicable. My bad for starting a thread with the same topic 6 years later.
