DIY: Bypassing Rear Air Spring Reservoir

Dealing with an air leak from your aluminum tank? Too lazy to fix it the right way or too cheap to drop $700 on a pair of Arnotts?

Well, you’re in luck. Here’s an easy way to stop those pesky air leaks and extend the life of your tired air spring.

Time: 10 minutes

Parts Required:

Swedish-made hose clamps

3/4” PVC insert

Sharp object

Find the kit for $30 at RMT’s website or piece it together for half that.

Locate the only hose going to the tank and find a section where you’ll make the cut. Apply some cutting lube and cut the hose nice and straight. Now insert the plastic piece into the hole, attach hose clamp and tighten. That’s it, you’re done.

After this mod the ride is noticeably firmer, but nothing to write home about. Enjoy your (air) leak free automobile.

Yup. Might not be so easy on smaller leaks from that area.

If you’re replacing a bag with an RMT or any other OE style I’d definitely recommend doing this with a set of fresh hose like you see above.

Cool, I have a leak on one side in the rear. If I leave it in sport 2 it's fine. So I assume its the bag. But it wouldn't hurt to find it, small chance it could be the tank.

Question

Is it possible to use this kit to plug the tank, instead of the bag, and would that help in any way?? Here's my situation: apparently my left rear air bag in coding, according to my Indie Shop, but now I wonder if the problem could be the tank - OR - since I am replacing the bags with a set of Arnott A-2725 bags, should I cap off the reservoir?

the tank is just a block of metal, if you go with arnott you can leave it alone or unbolt it and done. this procedure turns your any oe bag into a ghetto arnott by stopping air from escaping through the tank vent hole.

Leaking plug

Hello
I did this while installing a new air bag. Everything was great for a day but the next day the car was on the ground on that side again. Pretty sure the leak was at the plug i made. I attached a rubber hose piece with a steel clamp and a plug also with a screw down clamp. Any advice to keep that from leaking?

I have not had any issues with raising or using the different modes. I currently have only done one side and that hasn't caused any issues i am aware of either. I intend to do the other soon. This has been a helpful solution for me.

I have been contemplating this idea for a while Didn't know there was even a kit for this, LOL. Mine drops over 3 days or so. Someone I know detached the hose from the sprint and reservoir, cleaned corrosion on mating surfaces, reinstalled everything back and says his problem was solved. So I was wondering whether my leak could be from the hose from the spring to the reservoir. So I was thinking about replacing the hose with a new one but don't know the hose diameter. I never got around to examining it closely.
I am curios why you decided to cut and cap the hose instead of replacing it.

Thanks.
