W211 E55 facelift
Hi,
I read the common issues topic for W211 E55.
I'd like to ask the technical differences between 2007 E55 and 2004 E55.
Does facelifted E55 have a better performance or better consumption values? Are they using same transmission or ECU software?
What kind of differences are there between these versions? (Except accessories and features)
Any performance and handling improvements in facelifted E55 ?
If I drive that E55 to the nearest Mercedes Service for full mechanical check, will it be enough for it's mechanical condition?
I assume, STAR diagnose isn't enough for buying an E55.
Your opinions/advises are appreciated,
Thanks,

Last model year is usually the best. If you want an E55 then I would suggest 2006 however the 2005s are very similar if not the same.

IMHO the "late 04" - so the "model year 05" (code 805) manufactured in 04 is the best model ![naughty](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/naughty.gif)
It has:
- The newer "05 supercharger" type (A113 090 0580) - called the "05 supercharger"
- The newer TCU - just like the 05 it wont let you do too much of a burnout despite ESP switched off - yeah some people may like the old one more but I'd rather live knowing that nobody could torture my car before me![Wink](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
- Shift paddles working all the time (not only in manual) - but I'm not asolutely sure if 04 and earlier don't have it
- Red lines/marks at the end of the tachometer in the cluster panel (so actually 05 cluster panel)
- Better/quicker steering rack (which came together with CLS55 and went into E55) just like the 05 model
- The newer (05 style) mesh on the center air vent on the dash
- Ceramic clear coat paint
- Newer type of rear diff (also came with 05 model)
But it still has two features of an 04 model which are actually better than the newer updated 05 ones, and those are:
- the price of an 04 (if the seller doesn't know about all of it)![Wink](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
- the older type armrest in the middle - which is a real armrest and has some better storage.
Please correct me if I'm wrong with some of the thins mentioned.
There's a pretty good video about the model differences made by AMG Meister
