New Member/Q about Steering Wheel Upgrade

Hi, I just bought an '05 E55 and just found MBworld a couple days ago. Seems like a great resource and a lot of interesting conversation! I just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Justin, and ask about a steering wheel upgrade that I saw on an E55 on the internet. It has matching Black Birdseye Maple and larger grips with perforated leather. Much better looking than stock. Anyone know who makes one like that or where I can get one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's my steering wheel:

I got it from Autwerks Direct. Just call and ask about t-bone's steering wheel. I think they still sell it, but it's just not on their website.

I forget how much Autowerks Direct is selling them for now. I think around $1500. Just call and check with them. It may be less now.

I looked into the Kleemann steering wheel before I bought mine. The Kleemann steering wheel doesn't have enough wood. They are just inserts. And their price was also much higher.

OMG, That wheel is sick!! I would buy that in a second but I have black wood, not Carbon Fiber all over my interior. I dont know how it would look mixed. If it is available with wood trim, its worth looking into but I agree with T-bone, the inserts arent as nice as the whole rim being made of wood.

The Kleemann steering wheel can be ordered with exactly what you want as an insert.

The reason for an insert, is that the wood / carbon is a thing to look at and the leather is a thing to touch, sweaty hands on clear coat is not exatly the best combination when you are fighting a +600 HP Kleemann car

At high speeds I usually find myself holding the steering wheel at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock. Only when I am cruising do I actually grip the steering wheel where it is all wood. And having a full wood grip feels much nicer than leather for easy driving.

Therefore I'm out on the Kleemann steering wheel.

However Lucas since your cars are full Kleemann cars, it makes much more sense for you to go with the Kleemann steering wheels.

Then it's because your RT car is too slow to make you use the wheel for real, but for christ sake who drives an E 55 at 90 holding the hands in the same position always ?????

Uh ok. You seem peeved for some reason. No need to disparage my car.

I never said I held my hands in the same position always.

Well, everyone has different taste. I respect other people's opinions and feeling.
One problem with full wood steering wheel is that the wooden parts can be too hot to touch when you park the car under the sun for hours. I had bad experiences before.

The Kleemann design actually provides more function for drivers. You can try different way to grip the wheel and you will find the attractiveness. My friend had a Brabus one and he was happy with it until he saw Kleemann design. He had the Brabus one sold immediately. I like Kleemann products, but I don't stand for it. I just share some of my experiences and hope that would be helpful to some of you.

As to the price issue, people pay more money for better products/services, right?

My own personal taste is different. The Autowerks wheel has finger grooves at the back of the wood the same as the stock wheel and I enjoy the feel of the wood in my hands more than I did the leather. Of course, I'm usually just cruisin and groovin to my tunes, so sweaty hands aren't in the equation.

In general yes, but not necessarily true all the time. There are times that some people pay less for a better product.
