HP difference SL vs E/CLS

I notice an engine output difference between the SL (230) and the E/CLS (211/219) cars. The SL is rated at 510 HP and 531 Torque against 469/516 of the E/CLS bodied cars. Looking through EPC the supercharger part numbers are different but pulley sizes are the same. ECU's have different part numbers too. But different parts numbers don't necessarily point to the difference. Does anyone know how MB upped that power? Mechanical or firmware? If it is firmware has anyone flashed their ECU with the SL map?

Different exhaust & probably a few changes in the tune. On the M113K-equipped cars, the S/SL/CL variants also use a larger throttle body from the factory along with a larger heat exchanger.

That said, you can easily bridge any gap in the aftermarket.

510 is the 07 SL55 with the 80mm TB. normally it’s 469 vs 493 and realistically there’s no difference between them.

the main way they tried and failed to slow down the E55 was with terrible rear gearing.

Gearing does suck but it does allow for the 190-200mph top speed the can reach....given the room.
