I will tell you whats really nice looking. Get the disc/face black but leave the windows(sides of the spokes) polished or brushed or whatever the rim started out as. Of course keep the lip polished. This is a sick combination, its sure to impress and be unique and its what I am planning for my E55, I am getting the 547's. Hope this helps.

Depending on what kind of image do you want your car to have. If you want your car to have a very sporty, racey look, get black or charcoal center. Anodized center looks nice but very hard to sell in the future. If you want your car to look classy or elegant, get brushed aluminium.

leaning towards regular black finish since i dont think you can really tell the diffrence between obsidian black and regular black on a wheel

IMO, get the brushed aluminum or anodized. i think on the 8-series which have hidden bolt construction, black does not suit it because there is little contrast and the design of the 847r's are lost. it really understates the 8-series, which for my money if i paid for 8-series i would not want others to just blow it off as being another "black rim" since the 847r has a design which looks like many other rims, namely the CCW 505A. this would be my main concern, because the 847r has rather slim spokes and i would want it to be seen.
if i were to have the 847r's colored, it would be powdercoated and then gloss finish with clearcoat so it retains its somewhat shiny color on an understated wheel, and yet it is more durable than anodized so i have heard.
if i were to paint it black, i would consider another rim with more contrast such as the 547r's, 542r's, 540r's, 545r's, 543r's, or even 447r's. i think black wheels with polished lip look great on black cars, but i prefer a little contrast via the visible bolt constructions characteristic of the 4 and 5-series. just my opinion. anyway, nice ride you got there and you can't go wrong with any HRE. btw, your M3 was badass.
