2003 E55 amg traction issues
looking for tips on adding traction, my car just peels out everywhere when driving aggressively if im not super careful with the throttle. its fine just driving normal but any time i hit it hard i end up breaking loose and back end kicks out. any one else have this issue? my buddy recommended better tires, and there is an "esp malfunction" on my cluster so im going to get that checked out, but any info on this would be helpful.

Everyone has this issue. Better tires and LSD is about all that can help. If you live somewhere without much rain, drag radials would be ideal.

I run bridgestone potenza's re003 or s007a (indy 500's in the US) but they are only good in warm weather. I won't be getting them again. I would say pilot sport 4 would be a good choice.

does the height / width of the tire make much difference? i have on federal ss 595s in the back(not by choice) they are 265/35/18 was wondering if i should get that same size

Height won't make any difference. Width can make a small difference but it is still roughly the same contact area. 265 is the widest that should be put on a stock rim. You can fit 275 but it is outside the maximum recommended.

If it consistently steps out the same direction also check suspension bits and rear shocks. I had a leaking rear shock that caused the same side pull and replacing them made the car launch in a more controlled fashion.
You could have an ABS sensor bad etc that isn't triggering the rear calipers to even wheel spin out as they compensate for the open diff.
Lastly, I do have to say better tires were the single best improvement to traction I've made, I got the Pilot 4s at Costco, spendy but the traction (wet and dry) is just phenominal.

You Need esp working. Even when ESP is disabled via the button it is still acting as your (****ty) electronic differential. As stated above without it your open wheeling probably spinning up the weakest wheel and the esp system isn't intervening? Even with the system working you will be rear traction limited due to the nature of the v8 torque profile. You need a limited slip differential to address the issue as much as can be done..

Install a limited slip differential or, more cheaply, put your car in "comfort" mode using the button on the center console. I find I succeed more often in street challenges starting in 2nd gear. Less wheelspin and still enough torque and horsepower to shut down the ...(censored for protection). FWIW, I never street race. Seriously. You can go to jail for that so never street race.

Federal 595 doesn't grip very well. Those are more drifting tires instead of grip. I have Toyo with 295/30/18 to get a decent grip.

I run Firestone Firehawk indy 500 all around. they stick like glue. had them om my supercharged Mustang as well and was happy with them.

My wagon actually seems to put the power down quite well, at least on the summer tires. Winter tires not so much. Guess the extra bit of weight over the tail helps with traction.

I have the Indy 500s also and they are pretty good on my'08 E63. My power is a little higher in the RPMs so I can get wheel spin in 2nd when i go over 3000 and if its cold I can spin in 3rd.
I would also make sure the alignment is good.
