Out with old (M5) in with the NEW (E55)
A picture tells a thousand words.
I have heard many a story about comparisons of the M5 Verses E55. I have owned an M5 from new
and drove this for four years (40K miles) This makes me more than qualified to report on the pros and
cons of the two vehicles:
1. Overall the M5 is a superior driving machine.
2. Beauty is skin deep and in my opinion the new M5 is an ugly piece of S#!t
(This is my opinion and ultimately the only one that counts when making a decision.)
I have been converted to the E55. The king is dead long live the king!
It took some getting used to, I now hold the E55 in high regard, it's a fabulous driving machine.
1. I get considerably more looks in the E55 than I ever did in the M5
(Not that this really counts in the grand scheme of things however is a fact!!)
2. I have no regrets switching to the E55, it's certainly an engaging car but in a very different way.

Great pics!
What is the wheel size and where did you get them/who makes them?
Like the grill and flat emblem. Where did you get those?
I have an Obsidian Black 05 E55 coming end of Sept; your pics are making me drool!!

I did the same thing dumping my M5 for the E55- no regrets but the M5 definitely had better steering. Very classy look and I love the 19's but wonder how heavy they are?

Thanks for the complements. In answer to some of the questions raised:
- What is the difference in ride on the 19's verses the 18's on the M5?
The M5 had 275's on the rear the AMG Type IV wheels I now have are also
275's on the rear. The rubber is lower profile (35), this makes the ride a little
harsh however no more so than the M5. I much prefer the handling and
the feedback in the 19s.
- How heavy does the steering feel?
I only had the stock wheels for a matter of a few days however I did feel
an improvement in the 19s over the stock 18s.
- The new grill, satisfied ?
One thing I'm still not 100% happy with is the front grill, I feel the car looks
less aggressive with the standard grill, I opted for the Lorisner after market
option. Interestingly I have given my stock grill to a body shop and asked
them to de-chrome a portion to try and make this look a little more
aggressive, I will pick this up tomorrow and have this fitted, will post
pictures so I can get some feedback from the board.
- One other modification. I had the F1 Safety car steering wheel added,
It's actually called an AMG Soft touch wheel. I could not stand the stock
wheel, this was basically **** poor for a car of this standard.
If you compare the stock wheels with the Type IV's I think it's an obvious
upgrade to consider:

>> AMG soft touch wheel - is that factory fitment or dealer? Does it still have the gear shift buttons? Price?
- Retro fit, ordered by dealer.
- Still has the gear shifts
- Price (£660 pounds, $1188) includes taxes and fitting
