front spindle/hub dust/grease cap
hey guys,
when properly installed is the factory dust cap supposed to sit flush? I can't seem to get the cap to go any further but I'm not using any factory service type tool. my track wheels are coming into contact with the dust cap unless it is able to sit flush. trying not to have the center of the wheels machined out if possible.

I'm pretty sure that's the way they are, I remember mine had a small gap. Also, just watched a few brake change videos on YouTube and they all look like there's a small gap as well.

i thought about that...but did also think as mentioned...would i have issues removing the cap.
in the end...i'll probably machine my wheels. they're track wheels anyway and on the track you aren't supposed to run wheel center caps.

I have had to remove the subject cap on many cars over the years. Some caps don't have any air cap and they always come off. I typically use my thinnest cold chisel and work my way around the circumference. Soon enough there is a enough air gap to get something it there to pop the cap off. I would not worry about trimming it so that it will fully seat - as long as it does not come in contact with the spindle nut or the spindle end - whatever protrudes the most.

Why not grind the 3mm or so off, using a sander. That seems like the easiest solution.

don't have a sander...but with the amount of space i have with my 19's it either will or won't fit even if sitting flush...its literally that close. i'd rather not waste the effort in this situation. any cause for a wheel to not sit square could be dangerous.

You can do what i did I used a 24 mm socket set in the middle and dented it using a hammer for clearance with my rims setup...I had to use a little spacer to clear my perch since I'm 2.8 inches lowered on sport mode and I removed he cap fully..The rims have a dust cap that serve a purpose similar if you don't live in very sandy areas it's fine without the center bearing grease cap.
