Talking NEW TO MB! UPGRADING MY E55!!

Good evening ladies and gentlemen!

This is my first time owning an MB. I have owned several BMW's, including E46/E92 M3, Supra MK3-4, Civic Turbo, Rx-7 FD3S, Mitsubishi Evolution 5 and others, currently I have a C7 Z51 Stingray Cabrio. Since a few months ago I have been interested in MB, I was very interested in the W211 E55 AMG and last week I bought one, it is in excellent condition, today I left it in the workshop to make a tune up (oil/filter change, complete overhaul of the vehicle, etc).

It should be noted that the vehicle is totally stock.

The first thing I want is to change the sound of the vehicle as it is totally restricted and does not sound like a V8, I am used to vehicles with high pitched sounds.

I know there are several threads about this, but I want to start this one since the other threads are personalized by other owners and as I have no experience in these vehicles I would like to orient myself personally with people who do know.

For a loud sound I was told to do the following:

1. Longtube headers ( Maximizer Long Tube Headers )
2. Decatted
3. Custom 3 inch pipe
4. X pipe
5. Gutted mufflers

This is the sound I want: (
) from 7:15 to 7:45

For performance, I was told to buy the following:
1. Heat Exchanger Intercooler Cooling KIT ( KIT )
2. 82MM Throttle body (DISCARDED)
3. Pulley (mm??)
4. ECU Tune (is the TCU tune neccesary?)
5. Intake

*My goal is 500-530whp I don't need more than that (i think )*

If someone could guide me to reach my goal I would be eternally grateful to all those who help me.

NOTE : I don't have a big budget for this car

Unless you're a glutton for punishment, I would HIGHLY recommend skipping this mod. Search around in this thread for 82mm throttle body hiccup. It hasn't been fixed and the folks that say they are running it w/ no problems are vastly outnumbered by those (like me) who are still having issues with the car due to adding that throttle body.

Thanks for the reply!

What do you think about this: 83mm pulley + tune or anything similar you recommend?

can't stress enough how important headers are. people have popped cylinder 8 on these things by upgrading cooling, pulley, and tune but not the exhaust. you need the headers to vacate all that heat

Go read through my build thread, I've dynoed every single upgrade I've done and consider my car to be as basic full bolt on as it gets.

correct me if i'm wrong as im unmodified but i thought the below was true:

stock: ~400whp
LTH + tune: ~450whp
LTH + tune + pulley: ~500whp

since you mentioned money is a concern and are only looking for a 420-430 hp, i'd go with LTH + tune and call it a day. an upgraded h/e will never hurt but not completely necessary for that setup since you'll actually be running a bit cooler than stock with reduced boost pressure. the stock intake is efficient as you'll get so don't waste your money there. I've got k&n filters which produce a bit more whine up top but i doubt much if any power.

I'm sure someone could chime in on a good tune. if i were to modify i'd go w RaceIQ but there are plenty of options out there.

Thought so. Torn axle boot?
I had to replace the axle in mine because of a torn boot. I couldn’t find a boot.

If you find something to fix it with please let me know.
I would like to fix the one I took off and have it as a spare

Ahhh, someone mentioned that tune earlier, why do you recommend RaceIQ and not Eurocharged, they seem to be pretty solid?

both have good reviews among forum members. I have used eurocharged and have never had issues, but have also heard very good things from raceiq

How do these tunes work, be it eurocharged, raceiq etc.? Do you just flash a pre-made tune on your ecu, without adjusting it to your individual engine?
