Broke it real good for sure
Testing a new tune and nitrous today for up coming race. Timing and AFR spot on but she is hurt real bad on cylinder 4. Think I lifted a ring as it's blowing compression out the oil filler . Can't really see to well with the bore scope so can't see the damage. I have 30 days to fix it before the race in April....this really sucks. Almost seven years of killing it....it was bound to happen I guess.
Anyone have a sleeved block on the shelf LOL !!!!
Update
Not a ring land....cracked piston right down the middle....bore is perfect.

Many think the m113 k is bullet but is it's actually a weak engine and not made for these things thrown at it.I had 3 55 cars one even made 700 whp stock block . ..You play you pay ,

air fuel is only one part of the story...ignition timing and detonation is another if that was the culprit. sad to hear a fellow AMG owner having mechanical issues. hopefully its not as bad as you think and if it is, hopefully you are able to resolve without spending to much.

But now you can use stronger forged pistons which means more power. Trying to make lemonade here...

Ahhh....it happens what can you do. I think it was just stress as I always run 108 octane on the street and cool engine temps so not an ignition issue. Those cast pistons are tough but have there limit and 16 years old too !!!

My block didn't last to long after 600 whp..after 540 whp the pistons are like glass..To be honest if your looking to push it hard it's time to move on to a different platform like i did.

So now that I am past the boo hoo stage LOL I have decided to stop screwing around and make it stronger than ever.
The block is going to Dan Benson Racing for cylinder sleeves as I felt that he would do a great job and I liked his sleeve set ups over the Darton. Plus I have no one to trust with Dartons so I have to ship from Ct to Utah which sucks but what ever.
J&E is making me pistons and they are the supplier for Weistec and VRP M113K pistons that they sell.
Rods are being Cryogenic treated and should be twice as strong than none treated so don't have to buy rods.
Heads are ported , coated and just need the bee hive springs swapped over. I'm a week in already and will just have to wait for the block and pistons to be finished. Guess I will not make my April 18 1/2 mile event but better it broke now than at the track LOL....that would have been a looooong ride home for sure !!!

Dan sleeved my block over 3 years ago , the block that’s going 9.75 lol, everyone was wondering why I was just doing regular sleeves and not Darton , mine was the first Mercedes he ever did , we both took a chance , he came highly recommend, the Darton route was a cluster process,, glad I used Dan I have another spare I’m. Building now

Great to know ....like I said my trust is very small in any machine shop since my original guy long ago is gone. That has really kept me from doing anything radical for a long time. Knowing Dan is a one man operation is great too. I hope to ship block off today when it's all torn down.
Will need to rebalance as well but think I have found someone.

My bad on vrp selling j&E. J&E did tell me they make them for Weistec so maybe they where talking about another vehicle type.
Would have been nice for a call back as well. Had to buy from some one else.

Sorry about that, Did you email? We have the rods and pistons listed on the website, We keep them in stock 2 sets at a time on a revolving basis, Build time is approximately 5 weeks

OK so need some real help here. During dissasembly I noticed that all the rods are facing the same way. Fine dosn't matter. But...the pistons are all facing the same way as well. In other words the pistons are offset and you would think that they would face either the out side of the block or inside not all in the same direction. Is this normal ? Seems VERY odd to me so anyone notice this.

Hey SICAMG, I am no builder but to me it doesn't sound correct. Are the pistons not grooved for the valves? If they are and they aren't turned the correct way for the valves then that would obviously be an issue (but I am also pretty sure you already know that LOL)

Just talked to Chris..Sirboostalot and he, aside from being smart as sheet, confirmed that it is correct. It has to do with the rotation of the crank and the thrust angles and loads on the cylinder wall. That's some cool stuff that I have never seen before.....

SICAMG this is interesting to hear. I’ve never been inside these engines. If you can post a pic of the pistons as you described above. Would like to see that and understand more.
Plus this will help in the future.

Plus you can view what you’re posting before actually posting it.....which I don’t think many do from the posts lately. Lol.
Seriously though, it’s simply and will help others later I’m sure. We need more good info threads like this with details and pics for future and current owners.

LOL Thanks. I am truly waaaaay behand with anything to do with stuff that everyone else can do. I would rather do M113k engines all day than figure out how to send a PDF file through an email. LOL
So the block is being sleeved now but having a hard time comunicating with J&E pistons. Building your own piston is very technical where I always used off the shelf stuff over the years.
I went with the lightest I could with light weight tool steel wrist pins.

Hahahaha I learned most of it while I was still teaching.
All my time has been working on the collision end of things. I haven’t done a ton of internal engine work but like to help out friends when I can to learn more. I’ve done a few VW aircooled engines for myself over the years.
Keep us posted on the progress as you go.
