Keyless go issue
I need advice I bought an 2007 e63 with only 1 key. I went to the dealer and bought the expensive smart key when it arrived at the dealer the key did nothing. They assume no responsibility for selling me a key that doesnt work. What are my opitions on getting my keyless go function to work at this point I dont want to go to the stealership for any repair. Can I simply buy the ignition switch with smart keyfob as I see on Ebay or what else is needed I have a non smart keyfob that works so I'm guessing that someone replaced the ignition at some point and didnt go through the stealer any help will be appreciated

We need more info - does the key start the car when inserted in the ignition, and it's just the start button on the shifter that doesn't work? Have you tried a new battery (sometimes even new fobs have been sitting on a shelf forever and may need a new battery). What about handles working (those do commonly fail on these cars).
Either way you'll likely need codes scanned properly with a STAR computer to troubleshoot, so dealer or an independent who has one of those. Don't just buy stuff on Ebay as you may need even more programming work to get those parts recognized by the car. Ignition failures are not common at all - I would doubt it's been replaced but who knows.

Yeah like I said straight from the dealer the new one does nothing with fresh batteries, but the one I got with the car. a random generic mercedes non smart key. unlocks, locks and starts the car when it is in the ignition the new key in the ignition does say that it Is teach in or something but I left it in over 24 hours still said the same thing i push the button on the shifter to start the car it says key not detected does the same for the non smart keyfob

Side note: yeah the benz dealer was automatically was like the ignition was replaced be cause the key we have on file is this key and it makes no attempt to open or lock and the wheel is still locked and wont turn . that said is it possible to get a remote start alarm with keyless entry to work I feel really bad about not having all the features on my car working and I did the vin search and yes the car came with keyless go.

Is it possible that they ordered a key for you but didn't program it to the vehicle? That would explain the non-responsiveness of the key if it hasn't been programmed to your vehicle's EIS.

When, I ordered a new key for my 07 E63 several years ago, the dealership had to program it for me.
In essence code the key to the car. They did this free of charge, but I think they now charge for it.

What the dealer told me when I was brought inside by the parts lady was it was programmed in Texas to the eis on file for my car they then told me to let the key try and program over night so I let it teach in but it never finished I will post pictures of my keys in a little while although I dont see the point in that .also where is the unit located behind the ashtray or behind the stereo ?

My 2005 has the keyless module attached to the back of the ashtray holder.
To remove it pop up the shifter base and that gives you access to a couple of fasteners and a tab or two if I remember correctly.

What, I would do is go back to the dealership and talk to the Parts Manager, and explain that this is BS as the key you purchase does work in your vehicle.
And since the part doesn't work, your requesting a refund, or they make it right, and code it free of charge.

Well I did try and plea my case to the parts manager and I used the whole it's not my fault you ordered my key eith out so much as looking at my car. I also told them that when I ordered a key that key is supposed to work and the best they would do for me is discount the initial diagnosis of the issue but not enough to really make a difference in my opinion. If I say ok diagnose it end result in my opinion. Would be replace the eis and what ever else is in conjunction with it to operate and you guessed it a new key that I simply dont want to do yet the key that works is getting old and will need replacing

Then, I would elevate it up the chain to the GM, they can send the key back and reorder a replacement. Hopefully, this one will come already coded for your vehicle.
But I wouldn’t accept their excuses, provide me a key that works or refund me my money, and I’ll go somewhere else and order it.
I have six dealership near by, that I could go to in a pinch, and they all compete with one another, and I exploit that rivalry.

ya, to my knowledge they will only sell you a key if you show that you own the vehicle as they will order the correct key frequency for your vehicle. additionally, i am almost certain they will then program that key to your vehicle. if your vehicle has had other key's programmed you may be out of key slots. i'm not an expert on this topic, but that may be the case if so.

When, I ordered my key, I showed them my registration, and my key came programmed already.
And to my knowledge you can only have a total of five keys programmed to your car.

Oh man you guy wont believe my day I was running a few errands then i was going to go to the dealer and dig down and pretty much force the key issue BUT my last errand was indeed my last for the day while I'm roaming the isles at harbour freight I lost my working copy of the key I looked and looked and had store employees looking but that key grew legs I had the key to lock the door and set the alarm and yes drive there. So I needed to call a tow and that is pretty much that my worst nightmare about the key issue has finally slapped me in the face. I did get a really good tow truck driver who found help for my key issue he knows someone who will come tomorrow morning and he has the software to flash what ever needs flashing I hope it works if not I know I wont get my car from the dealer until the middle of next week if they dont need to order any thing I'll keep you guys in the loop if your interested

Bad luck seems to be following you around lately. Sorry to hear about your lost key. I believe that someone must have picked it up.

Update to my key issue
Well a total of $1380.05 is what my losing my only working key cost me from the dealer not to mention the two tows I needed . But its complete i have one new smart key and new eis. The only good thing was that the key that I bought that never worked was taken as a under warranty item and replaced with the new key for free but if you cant afford to fix it dont buy it .thanks everyone.

Damm. 😩 That was one very expensive lesson to learn. I remember only paying maybe $230 for a new E63 key in 2017.
