Opinions in buying E63 2007
Hello guys!!! im new to the forum and looking for opinions/options. i have been looking for MONTHS for my first E63 2007. I finally found 1 and it's really clean inside and out. not much in the service record and it drives smooth. its 94k Miles but the head bolt is not yet replaced. Price is only 12k. Whats your opinion? Any extended warranty? I've been quoted through edurance and carchex for $130 monthly which does not sounds bad but any recommendation for any CREDIBLE extended warranty if ever? Thank you!!!

I have an 07 E63 and I will say this, as these cars age things will come up. So be prepared for it. There is nothing on the E63 that can't be fixed, it just takes money.
When these cars as maintained and running get, their awesome. I can't offer any advice on warrantees, as I never had one. For service records, I would talk to a SA at Mercedes and can see if they would pull a service history for you.
Some will and some won't, especially if it contained owners information, but they use a black markers. Before purchasing make sure that every single button in the vehicle works to include the sun roof. Also don't be in a rush to buy it, please do your research before purchasing it.

After, you purchase your E63, get on top of the maintenance or lack of maintenance. Unless your have recent records change all the fluids, especially the tranny, brakes and diff.
Establish a spreadsheet, where you track and maintain your vehicles maintenance history. As for me, I use this schedule.
Yearly - oil change, wiper blades, air filter and cabin filters.
2 years - Brake fluid, Power Steering fluid
4 years - Transmission fluid, Rear Differential fluid, and Engine Coolant
Miscellaneous - Spark Plugs and Serpentine Belt
Know, if you don't drive if as often and it sits, you can extend this schedule.
I don't follow a mileage schedule just time. But this should get you started.

The big thing is to know what your getting into, before you buy. Some, have bought AMG's and have issues costing thousands to fix right from the beginning.
What 14 yrs car doesn't have some type of issue. That's why proper maintenance is essential, for your wallet.
My most expense to date, was probably repairing a upper oil pan leak, followed by replacing the head bolts, then front air struts.
I just replaced the rear air springs two weeks ago. Cost can quickly add up, trust me on this. Having owned three AMG's over the last 14 yrs.
These things can be money pits, the key is getting them to a routine maintenance state. Where you deal with one small issue a year outside of the routine maintenance.

at the age of our cars now...bushings and ball joints are on their wait out as well. 12k should look more like 19k if you can't lean heavily on that warranty service. also, some warranty service's will argue this or that because they will only warranty things that fail, not things that are "failing".

Some really good points above. I went through the purchase process last year and you have to realize (and be good with it) that you are NOT repairing a car that's $12k but a car that was about $80k. You will need to repair it and it won't be cheap. I'd say find something you like where you have all the service records (or as many as possible) and be willing to pay a bit more for it so you know exactly what you are getting yourself into. Even that isn't a guarantee but may help you sleep better. I don't have any experience with extended warranties.
Good luck and I hope that you pull the trigger on an e63 and that you like...I love mine![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

2008 e63 amg
Hi sorry I might be posting in the wrong place. I have a 2008 e63 amg. I had replaced the head bolts on it. Replaced the alternator. I have a p0106 code coming. My wife wants to get rid of the car as she claims it is old and not reliable. Can these cars ever become reliable (even after changing all things that need to be changed)? Sorry if I posted at the wrong place. I have 115000 miles on it. She wants me to sell it for 12k

i've owned mine since 78k and now have 160k...i drive hard...real hard, every day. amazing car if you are up with the upkeep. if you're not on it at the sign of something going out, you're only going to cost yourself more in the long run.

I try to be. I did mostly everything on it myself (head bolts and alternator). But wife gets mad when I work on the car. I have a timing chain cover leak. Indy shop said engine needs to be pulled out. Should I sell the car?

timing chain cover leak does not require the engine to be pulled. find a new shop that doesn't see AMG and think they hit the lotto. all that is needed is radiator fan and radiator to be removed to give enough clearance. the work involved is quite a few hours. over 10 easily if you also deal your oil pan and other things as I had my buddy do at his shop for me.

Thanks for the reply. I took it to a Mercedes shop (not the dealer) and they were the one who told me that. Is it worth keeping the car though. That is my question (which no one can answer).
You are not in Florida are you?

nobody can answer that for you because we are here because we are keeping our vehicles or looking to own one. you won't get the answer you're looking for here.
the question is...is it worth it to keep your girlfriend.

Only you and answer that question. I tell everyone that are looking at buying an older AMG this. These cars cost $100,000 when brand new, and the maintenance cost are equivalent.
If you plan to keep it, you want to get the car in a maintenance state, where you have one unplanned item occur every year, besides your standard maintenance.
That is where my car is now. All of my big ticket issues have been resolved, only small issues pop up now. But, if you plan to keep it, be prepared to put money into it.
This is the reason, why there are so many AMG's up for sale on the web. The owners want to get rid of them before it starts costing them money.
They buy them, drive them, and then get rid of them.
