The poster on AMG Club Forum didn't give details but he said he owned the 2003 E55 for only 2 weeks.

WOW. Looks like he tried to mod the car a little too much.

it looks like the plane of the crankshaft (the bottom of the block where it bolts up to the oil sump. Probably had the big end of a connecting rod fail.

One of those pictures looks like the starter motor hanging onto whats remaining on the rear skirt area of the block.

Either over-revved the engine (exceeding the oiling systems capability) - or like someone else mentioned nitrous.

- connecting rod bolt failure
- spun bearing
- connecting rod broke

I've seen AMG's wrung out at the MBUSA events (Power Trip, etc) and with all the full throttle take offs they do all day long the worst I've seen is tires wearing out.

This person must have beat the hell out of that engine...especially if they only had it for two weeks.

Mercedes Benz
While these are not normal for AMG motors, sometimes a motor fails under normal conditions. A local dealership and 2 S55k's in for service and both had blown motors. These cars were both stock and both just failed. A C32 owner on C32life had a motor fail so this is not something unheard of. It is not a E46 M3 like issue but saying it is due to some aftermarket part is not always true. Could it be a modded motor? Of course but we dont know that for fact. Mistakes can be made!
