this has happened to me twice in the past 3 weeks. first, at stoplight, turn left, hit break about to turn into parking lot on right, car is dead. restarted fine and for rest of day. in C mode.
second, came to stop at traffic light. car dead.
did anyone ever come up with the solution to this magic problem? or did you get a new car?
please let me know. the advisor took it out for a 2 mile test drive to test it, found nothing obviously, and is now reading these posts to see if he can find anything.

Perhaps I can shed some light on this subject for you guy's.
I've had this occur on 2 CLK 430's and 1 03 CLK 500, the 430 did not have keyless. More than likely the problem is being caused by the poor quality mass air flow sensors MB has been using; MBtech298 spent quite a bit of time making us aware of how many of these sensors in brand new cars(of all classes C,E S etc) have problems, the thing is, they don't fail completely but just enough under certain conditions to cause the car to stumble, stall or both. The biggest issue is it does not throw a code; the techs are lost when they don't have a code to identify the specific component causing the issue and with stumbling/stalling lots of things can cause it.
We need MBtech 208 back on the board, he was invaluable to us all

Great timing to bring this thread back to life!! Took a road trip to Boston yesterday (car is awesome on open road. Just chews up the miles). When I got in to the city (holy construction!!) there was a lot of stop and go. The car did not stall, but felt real "jerky" everytime I lifted off the gas.
A few months ago I brought it in while the regional tech was there and they replaced the crank sensor as that will also not throw a code. I will mention the MAF next time.
BTW, from Long Island to Boston I got 20 mpg!! and for most of the trip was doing anywhere between 80-110 mph!!

Had similar problems with my E55 within the first 1000 miles - always at slkow speed , but in my case when the car was cold. Normally reversing, turning and then shifting to Drive - as I pulled off it would die
No Keyless Go
has not done it since (5000 miles to date)

Nu E55 has satlled only a few more times in the last few months/ Then again, I drive it max 500 miles per month. There have been other times when it nearly stalled . All events as I reported previously. The near stalls are reminiscent of trying to take my old manual '51 Chevy in reverse, up a hill from a parked position-if you aren't quick enough to give enough throttle...
On a side note, I wonder if gremlins have anything to do with this.
2 months ago I had an ESP not functioning return to servicecenter warning, that the dealer said was due to a frayed wire.
In the last month, I have had an ESP not functioning, alternating with Headlamps not available instrument message and a Close Sunroof message 2 weeks apart. The former was alleged to be due to a side seat sensor failure and the latter to a "lost verification"-they have no idea why, except that these cars have "a lot of electronucs." Oh, should mention that the month before I noted that engaging rear defroster caused both AM and FM reception to cut to white noise. The dealer deternined I had a short in the defroster and replaced the rear window...
Thank you very much

Had it happen to me. Just once. No stumbling, just dead. I was actually at 40mph when it happened and I had enough momentum to pull into a parking lot and start it up again. I was in some traffic, but nothing out of the ordinary and nothing bumper to bumper. This was about 2 months ago. I didn't even bother taking it to the dealer because I know no one would be able to duplicate it.
MBtech298 or whatever was probably right, even a quick error from the MAF could immediately kill the car without much effort. That would explain why this is not limited to 1 car when things like crank angle sensors, etc all vary depending on the block but the MAF can be the same since airflow is airflow...
