I have searched on the forum looking for the tool part number. The only one I could find was w230589004000. I have seen conflicting information on various sites as to whether this is the correct tool or not. When reached out to one of the MB parts sites they replied they no longer sell tools and reset that part number on their site to "no longer for sale".
Why is it so difficult to source the "K" version of this tool? The regular M113 tool is cheap and widely available. Does anyone know if that tool can be modified to work. I have a machine shop and welding equipment, but really don't want to make one from scratch if I can avoid it.
230-589-00-40-00 is the correct holding tool. It's a specific tool only to the supercharged engine, because it's far deeper than the regular holding tool since the harmonic balancer has two pulleys instead of one.
It's made by Bosch. These are photos of the real tool.
Where you able to get the tool to work? I also need the tool to replace my main pulley.
I have the official Mercedes tool (made by Bosch). Took 3 attempts at ordering it online, and all three companies sent me the regular one for non-supercharged cars despite that being a different part number. It's hard to source. Ended it up buying it locally.
The design of the tool works perfect. Small pipe to reach the ground braced against a piece of wood, and I put a 5' pipe on my 1/2" Snap-on breaker bar (24"). No issues at all. Torqued it up the same way to 90 degrees. Just torque it to spec, mark the bolt, and then complete the 90 degrees.
The bolt is a 12.9 grade metric, hardened well past grade 8. It is tight, and takes a lot of force to move it. Remember: One use only bolt. Have to replace it.

Thank you for both the confirmation of the part number and the pics. I found the rental tool company that I believe the pics came from. I might have to go that route if I cannot get one of the online parts dealers to supply the tool for purchase.
If I do manage to purchase the tool I will most likely post it on the forum for sale once the job is completed. I'm hoping I don't need it more than once .
