electrical fire damage E55 62k miles
Sad news Everyone, my 05 e55 amg got electrical fire damage from the cabin Vent blower motor. AC was running fine then there was a burnt smell in the car then it start to smoke out the air vent and the the passenger footwell and dashboard caught on fire.
I was able to get out of the car ok and use a fire extinguisher I have in the trunk. But it has burned the passenger footwell, dashboard and headliner from passenger side to the center console. Car was baby and driven couple time a month only has 62k miles.
My question for anyone who has rebuilt or swap part inside the e55 amg if I plan to repair it.
1. Will the wire harness from any w211 say e320,e350,e500 will work on the E55? Just the wiring part from the center dash to the passenger dash.
2. Edge of the black box TCU module (not sure) was melt/burn will I need another e55 amg TCU or any w211 TCU can be coded to work, which will cost less?
3. I plan to repair or part out the car. From the picture below will 4-5k can repair it? I don't have star laptop, just a normal bluetooth OBDII reader and can turn wrench.
Thank for any input and advise.
burn from passenger dashboard to center, driver side is fine.
the expose circuit board box is the TCU correct? The metal cover module box seem fine.
part of the passenger footwell wiring burn.
passenger dashboard wiring harness burn
air filter box burn, engine and transmisson is fine
aux battery and wiring seem fine

Hate to say this ....and I can fix just about anything, the car is done. There is so much damage and damage that you can not see.
You will need a complete donner dash, all wiring and I mean all , seats, windshield, modules the list goes on and on. Real sorry but it's done. Best to find another that maybe needs a drive train and swap over.

Wow! Man that is horrible and I know you’re upset.
I agree with SICAMG. I’m sure it could be fixed but you would need a lot to fix it. Then once it was repaired if you started having electrical issues chasing the problems might be a nightmare.
Might be better to find another car and use what you can from yours.

thanks, I knew it was in bad shape, just getting other opinion. I'm in the process of removing the front dashboard to see any other damage. On another note Any one have successfully swap e55 engine/trans into a e320/e250/e500 w211 car?
been searching but have not see any e55 car with engine/trans problem for sale. Can anyone confirm the partial burn black box module that show the circuit board is the TCU?

Pull the drivetrain and suspension and install them into a high mileage e55. Or sell them to someone else who will nstall them into a high mileage e55. You can then also sell off some of the body work for some more money. That car is totaled! I think I'm pretty good, but I would not even attempt to rebuild that car.

Since I barely drive it and park inside home garage mostly I which to 1 way collision insurance last year. Hard lessen learned, always have full coverage. this will be out of my pocket.
Just in case I do find a donor/salvage w211 non amg car will the whole front wiring harness and module and work with the e55 amg car? There plenty of crashed w211 e320/e350/e500 .

This can be rebuilt, but will cost you a lot of time and money, as well as online shopping. It seems like your determined to rebuilt it, so I wish you great success. Personally, I would find another E55, as rebuilding it is a daunting task. But, I’m glad that you had a fire extinguisher, I personally carry one in both my vehicles, because you never know. Good luck……Sir.

Yeah I get that. On my vehicles that don't get full coverage, I drop collision. And when I don't drive a vehicle for the winter, I drop everything BUT comprehensive (fire, theft, vandalism, acts of god). Maybe because this vehicle was driving, it couldn't be considered for a comprehensive claim. But in general comprehensive should be literally the last piece of coverage to go.

After looking at the photos again, this is extensive fire damage. I have to retract my previous statement, as this can’t be saved. You may have a find a high mileage E55 donor car.

True..... so very true, I need to check out my extinguishers in my vehicles, to ensure their still full and charged. As they've been unused for years.

This place is a joke.
Ouch on the lack of insurance. There is no fixing this car. The body wiring harness is destroyed. Sell it for parts, it's probably worth $4k or so, and move on. Maybe some knucklehead will make a gooftube video about it.

Maybe a hard rear hit high mileage E55 donor car for the interior and all other parts,, or a front hit and buy the dash and airbag stuff, which is the same as any w211. Lots of work though and possibly some paint work

still hoping still a chance If I can find a e55 amg donor car, then I might try to swap part over. IF Not then I will sell as it and part out next month. A part of me say if able to repair to the point the car can drive and brake ok then it good enough.
The whole front dashboard and HVAC and accessory stuff can stay missing/remove as weight saving. Is it possible with Xentry or Star to disable on the ecu all the module that was burn up so it can start and drive?
Logically and financial of me say a high millage w211 step down to e500/550 around 5k is my right choice.
STILL looking for a good body and interior 03-06 e55 amg car for part swap. 2nd option is 03-06 e55 amg with high millage, non running dead engine/trans, and accident car.
pm me thanks.

OK it's clear that you are not going to listen to anyone that knows far more than you. There are so many smart people on this board and if it could be saved we would jump in and offer what we could. YOU CAN NOT SAVE IT judging by your mechanical ability, nothing wrong with that but this is beyond your scope considering you want to use star to work around and "fix" this problem and shut things off and remove the dash board for weight savings.
You can't leave the dash out for weight savings....this is by far the worst train of thought.
Look for another 55 that has a popped engine , get it cheap, swap over drive train. Done.

My best option like you said buy another 55 with bad engine but that pretty rare through since m113k 55 engine mostly bulletproof. But I will keep looking, maybe I get lucky.

Is the blower motor on the W211 known to have short out issues?
Or is this one of those very rare anomalies?
I have 2 W211 cars and am more than willing to swap out a blower motor to prevent this from ever happening to me.

I was expecting the common stuff pano roof motor, the air supension, trans conductor plate/plug...
Maybe by babying the car and not driving often enough ( to keep low millage) might have advance the blower motor/resister issue it's 16 year old if it still original.
Fcpeuro has video and kit replacement the blower motor for w211 with lifetime warranty https://www.fcpeuro.com/Mercedes~Ben.../Blower-Motor/
