AC filters
Hi guys,
2007 E63 with the 4 zone climate control. I’ve tried searching and get mixed messages on AC filters. I’m aware there is one under the hood but have also read some w211s (e55s) have carbon filters under the glovebox. Is that also the case for the E63? Is there a recommended brand? I see FCP Euro has Mann and Hengst for the under hood filter.
Thanks,
N

I was digging through the parts catalog and it appears the cabin (internal) air filters were installed on code 581 (automatic climate control) + code 802/803/804 or code 914. My 2005 E55 is a code 581 + code 805 (model year 2005) and data card does not show code 914. So...to get to my point, not all E55s have the cabin internal air filters; early models did but later models did not.
Like Yuille36 said about the engine bay cabin air filter, go with a charcoal filter element.
All of this came about because I learned by accident (my bad for not reading the owner's manual more carefully) that my W210 E55 has two sets of cabin air filters; one set of charcoal filters about which I knew and had replaced and a second set of regular filters behind the glove box. Much to my chagrin, the two filters behind the glove box were the ones originally installed at the factory back in January of 1999. I've owned this car over seven years and never knew it...

Barry, where Doni find these codes to see if my 05 has them?
I’m sure I can check behind the glove box easily to
see?

Your 2005 will not have any filters behind the glove box. Earlier versions (build dates of 2002/03/04) had two each charcoal filters under the glove box.
Open up mbepc.net in two windows. In the first window, search by VIN to bring up your data card. In the second window, search by car/E/Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG USA/W211.076, then go to "83 Heating and Ventilation", then select 035 for the guts of the system. Filters are part number 310, scroll down on the right-hand side of the screen and then compare the codes listed there against the codes listed on your data card.

Ah yes, the extra charcoal filters. I assumed they would all have them with the quad zone. Evidently it is an earlier build thing. Mine were pretty clean but I changed them anyway. They don't get any use unless you press the extra filtration button so they honestly can probably go 5+ years between changes.
