W211 E55 Idler Pulley and S/C Belt Size

Hi all,

In December 2020, I replaced the OEM idler pulley's (both 6 and 8 ribbed) to the dual idler pulley's from VRP. Upon installation of the VRP idler pulley's, the OEM bolt was sticking out a little bit (maybe due to the lack of size of the VRP 8 ribbed pulley compared to the OEM one) so the mechanic did a custom fitting. When I turn the car on, those pulleys wobble a bit and create noise from under the hood. In the past year, I've replaced at least 3 s/c belts due to the belts either shredding or slipping. I'm under the impression it is from the aftermarket pulleys so I will be going back to the OEM idler pulley set.

So, if I were to go back to the OEM 6 & 8 ribbed idler pulley's and my car has a stock s/c pulley (90mm) along with a 180mm crank pulley (stock is 152mm I think), what would be the correct size of the s/c belt I should get?

After reading this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...t-numbers.html, I see that the stock s/c belt size is 1289mm but I have don't have the spacers that are discussed in this thread to do the calculation mentioned; everything is OEM aside from what I mentioned above.

The current belt size I was using that got shredded was a 520K8 Micro Rib Poly V-belt: 52.75 inches and 1339.85mm.
I just purchased a 522K8 Micro Poly V-belt: 52.95 inches and 1344.93mm in the hopes that this one won't shred or slip.

Is there a way to get a very close estimate of the measurement I would need to avoid this problem from constantly occurring?

Have you called VRP and asked them? It shouldn't be eating belts maybe the pulleys aren't aligned correctly.

When I spoke to them last year after I had the pulleys installed and explained to them the wobble it was having, they said it was normal.

Regardless, I’m going to be switching back to the OEM setup to avoid this from happening in the future.

We designed the aftermarket idlers for the M113k engine back 13 years ago on our own cars that had OEM failures and there were no good options back then. The belt we use and have used for many years on a 90mm SC and 180 mm blancer is the K080514 gates and you can add a HD after that number if you want a green belt. They come in OEM black, Silver, Red or gold,

+1 for the UPD kit, I have the 5pc idler set and belt wrap kit with an 83mm supercharger pulley and use a K080530HD Gates belt. No wobbles here!
