Audi RS6 Or E55 Amg?
I know it's kind of odd to post this on "MBWORLD," but I'd like to hear what your opinions are!!! If you can, post your reasons as well. Thanks.

MB E55 2004
Before I bought the E55, that was my other car of choice. Reasons the E55 won, resale value, straight line speed, interior ergonomics, and status. Just my two cents on this.

2005 E55 AMG
The RS6 is definitely a classy and well-rounded car (at least in its most recent iteration), but all Audi's have been plagued with resale problems ever since 60 Minutes did their "unintended accelaration" hatchet job back in the 80's. Thanks, I'll take the E55 for its combination of performance & luxury . . . and take less of a beating when it comes time to trade.

After 6 months with the E55
RS6...
trouble is it has terrible re-sale and it is not very safe in the off-set frontal crash test.
Saw a used 2004 RS6 with 8k miles and MTM mods to 530 hp for 54k on e-bay "buy it now" price. That is just sad. 85k to 54k in what? A year?
So maybe i got the right car. But its not what I call it fun to drive. Goes fast...but not fun.

E55's are between 69k and 80k depending on options and miles. I am looking to sell mine if i can get something close to the 83k I paid (90k Sticker car). Doubt I can get 80 but 77k seems possible.
Dealerships are asking 90k for 12k mile old cars but they are crazy here in southern california.

Does it even make any sense to take poll on the E55 vs RS6 on a E55 forum?
I believe most of us will pick the E55 since that is what many of us drive on this forum.

Buy the RS so I'll have an easier time getting an E55. They are pretty different approaches to acheiving similar goal, would really depend on where you live and what youre really looking for. turbo AWD vs superchared rwd. Snob appeal vs understatement.

I've actually posted the same question in audiworld. My purpose of doing so is to get the actual opinion of the current E55 or the RS6 owners, and kind of get a feel so that I can make a better decision. In addition, I'd like to find out what's available in the market as far as modifications for the E55 AMG.

2005 Brilliant Silver E55
I've owned both...well I have E55 now. The RS6 is a fun car but does not have the power of the E55. Modded RS6 will still lose to stock E55 in terms of performance. The RS was noticeably stiffer than the E55 and it handled better.
In terms of resale, after only 4 months of ownership, the car lost $16K in value. But I didn't get the RS for resale reasons. Luxury, is subjective and so is looks of the vehicle, although I like the W211 better.
The RS6, based on what I've seen is wholesaling under $60K with under 10K miles. 03 E55 is still wholesaling at around low 70s with 18K miles. But reality is that Audis in general will depreciate faster than any car in its segment, unfortunate but true.
The RS6 seems to lose performance as it increases speed, I think M5 Board did a write up on that.
Drive and both and decide for yourself.
Oh, as far as "RS6 and M5 will kill the E55 on the tracK...", well I live in DC and the Beltway is a big ring and doesn't have 90 degree turns so I could care less. I get FAR more looks in the E55 than I ever did in the RS6. RS6 are mostly recognized by Audi and VW owners in this area...maybe a few autophiles.

Hmm actually, you should check on edmunds or kbb, the 03 e55 vs 03 rs6, e55 has lower resale value. But yes I am aware that majority of Benzo's carry higher resale value.

The A6 4.2 I had, man what was I thinking...I will never buy another A6 again unless it's V8TT at minimum. These cars are very heavy and the Quattro doesn't help at all interms of performance (not handling).
TRUST ME, Chip and exhaust RS6 won't beat a stock E55.

HAHA YUP! F$#% those damn POS C5 A6. I hated my A6 sooo bad.

Honestly, I'm not really impressed by the Quattro system, considering I've owned 3 quattro's so far =( But that's my opinion. I guess we both learned a good lesson, NEVER buy another audi anything again. Until they realize what a POS they've produced.

I might actually be able to get a copy of E55 vs. RS6 (with ecu mod) clip soon. I'll make sure I post the link

I would love to see that!
The RS6 should easily take it off the line til the E55 hooks up and will eventually pass it.
This should be fun!

E55 Flint Grey/Merlot
Reviving a dinosaur here, but took my 1st ride in a RS6 yesterday.
If MB engineers could get even 75% of this car's handling down, it would be fabulous. The power is immediate, the exhaust note is great, the road feel is inspiring. The ride is not as forgiving as the Mercedes and the interior is a joke in this price level. The E55 interior materials and ergonomics just blow the Audi away.
The car in Daytona Gray is a stunner but mostly appeals to car nuts. The seats albeit comfortable look unfinished with their tiny bolsters. The car weighs maybe 45 pounds less than the E55 but feels much lighter and more nimble. Once I put another 400 miles on my car we may do a race to see how the cars compare for speed.
