77mm and box tune

I remember reading one of the posters here said getting a 77mm pulley and a box tune was a bad idea, usually popped the engine. I think his summation was headers are a must. I was contemplating a 77mm tune combo but I am hesitant. I am bone stock except for a X large heat exchanger, 010 pump, belt wrap and transmission ECU tune.
Thoughts?

My E is fully modded but on my G55 I have a 77 and canned tune from Tony at RaceIQ. No issues for the last 8mths or so n

I have said this a hundred times over the years......Do not do anything until you have some sort of live wide band gauge in the car. You have no idea where the tune is fuel wise when hammering the car and the gauge is the only way to "see" into the engine. Also if there is ever an issue at least you have a gauge to pull some information. Very cheap insurance.
