Columbia SC poser.....mind boggling

On I26 in S.C. came up upon a new E-class, silver, was an E320 or 500 sport. This dude had it badged as an E55 on the left of the trunk lid. No AMG badge or V8 kompressor badge, single exhaust pipes on each side.

I was in my wifes car. I couldn't stop laughing and shaking my head. I wonder what else these people fake/lie/misrepresent about themselves in their lives or in their work.

Finally passed the guy. Was some 50 something dude. Probably addicted to Levitra.

A guy at my gym in Brandon, Fl has a black S class badged S55...I was about to drool over the car but noticed that it didn't have the dual exhausts like the S55. His car only had 17"'s and no AMG bodykit, too. Still a nice ride...but definately a poser.

I would have to disagree with you and your comments. I feel that its really not that funny to see a poser and have a chuckle with my wife about it that just sounds yuppish or being a kind of hater in a way. I always grew up fixing cars up suspension wise, engine etc...... . reminds me when people from long ago use to put a turbo badge in the back of their cars and it really wasn't turbo. So what...was it funny? No I just noticed it but thats about it! Now the e500 does have a e55 appearance package and some have single tips!! But if I did indeed seen one one the street I still would love it. E55 or not its still a w211 and still looks great! I also notice posers but I don't laugh or wonder about their lives or have time to care. Worry about yourself and your own insecurities obviousley you have some hidden problems you don't want to admit to.

I have to agree with Kengi on this one. do you stereotype everyone you meet by the badge they wear? i hope not. unfortunately not everyone has the excess amounts of money needed to buy and actual E55, just be flattered they look up to that car so much.

So... they should "pretend" to own an E55? It's one thing to not be able to afford an E55, and to instead enjoy an E320. It's quite another to purchase an E320 and "pretend" to own an E55, hoping to fool the idiots. Also, think of it like this: The more people he fools, the less "prestige" awarded to someone who really does own an E55.

A "poser" is someone who doesn't seem to be happy with what they have...I would like to think that most people on the board are content (at the time) with what they can afford at the time.

I still have a CLK430 and I could have badged it CLK55, but I knew it wasn't...I dealt with the fact I couldn't afford one at that time and tried to work towards a point I could afford the E55. That "55" owner should have just debadged it totally...but he didn't and we move on...

The poser has the issues not the people making the observation that they don't have an AMG. We aren't "hating" their game because we know they don't have one. Peace.

Exactly AMGfan. I don't understand why people who simply point out posers for "entertainment" purposes are somehow the one's with the problems/issues.

I could understand if the guy was an overenthusiastic young kid, but a 50 something man?
Look, if this guy was called out on his badging in person, or if he showed up at a gathering of MB enthusiasts, would you agree that this guy would feel at least some embarrasment? If the answer is yes, which it is,then that means he has done something wrong on some level, not that it is a federal offense, however.

It is simply immature and childish for a 50 y.o. man to badge his E as a 55. He is a poser, which after all has a negative connotation, right? Do I want to stop him from doing it or make it illegal or key his car for it? Absolutely not. I don't even care, and I only posted it because I found it somewhat entertaining and humerous.

And BTW I wasn't laughing at the guy like the old janitor guy in Goldmember, more of an under the breath chuckle, if that makes any difference.

Even my wife, who knows nothing about cars and doesn't care about them, said that it was ridiculous and that she couldn't believe people would do something like that.

I guess it was time for another one of these posts. We haven't had one in a while. Again why does it bother you? Because if the only reason you bought the E55 was to "out" snob other E class owners then I think you're actually the poser.

Sorry to clutter the forum. I thought some would find the post interesting. It doesn't "bother" me at all. There are many, many other more important issues in this country which bother me. What does bother me is people who also would agree that it is a bit ridiculous but choose to take a contrary position on the forum and fault the messenger.

Now I'm a poser?? I suppose you are one of those who think that the WTC was somehow America's fault, too.

You guys are crazy! How does it not annoy you the slightest bit when you see somebody with some E320 with E55 badges? You all work incredibly hard for your money and as a reward you get an E55. Why do you want some guy who can only afford an E320 get the credit for having an E55 when he does half as much work as all of you? I was recently with a friend of mine and we were driving down Ventura Blvd. at about 3:00 am. Low and behold here comes an E320 or E500 driving by with (most likely fake) Brabus 19 inchers and none other than E55 ///AMG badges. I switch into the lane closer to him and pull up beside him. This guy, most likely convinced that he was driving an AMG, was about 20 and with some chick. My friend and I looked at him and started laughing. When he saw this he floored his car and tried to smoke me. HAH. That lasted for about a second until I layed him flat and was at 100 before he could even say 60. I embarassed him in front of his girl and gave him what he deserved in my mind. Its all in the saying "Don't write checks your mouth cant cash". He's sporting E55 badges, then he better be in an E55 or all he's gonna see is my four huge shiny exhaust pipes blowing smoke right in his face. Thats MY opinion and I'm sticking to it.

My boss drives a power-upgraded E55, by RENNTech I believe. A tad more horsepower and torque than your stock E55.

He removed all the E55-related badges and mounted all CDI-related badges.

Is he a poser?

Would you laugh at him?

He's an unusual poser, pretending to have a CDI I suppose? Most people don't pretend to have less of a car.

LOL, thats great! I hate with a passion people that re-badge their cars as higher models but this is different. The guy obviously wants his car to be underestimated so he can embarass the ***** out people who think they have the upper hand.

BTW, in this case, I would laugh WITH him....he spent the money, he can do as he pleases and he's not playing it off like he's rolling harder than he actually is.

I'd laugh WITH him,too...I personally think that's kind of overboard, but it's his green. If anything, debadging would be the extent I would go if I upgraded the E55 powerwise.

Real Cars
I was the originator of one of these threads a while back, it seems that people vary greatly in their opinion of it. While I don't like people purposely trying to lie to the general public, and badging their car in a way other than it was intended, I have grown from really being angered by it to laughing at it.

Today I saw a CL500 with CL55 badges, complete with the V8 Kompressor badge on the side. Stock CL500 wheels & brakes, but they even went to the extent of welding on 4 exhaust tips to make it look like a 55 (the tips were not oval, but squares with rounded edges). I was with a friend who seemed more apalled at the lack of class and tackiness of it that I was, but I guess I'm content with knowing I have a real 55, and they wish they did.

Marcus...you know what's cool (maybe a little immature, but let's not take ourselves too seriously and PC) is when you are just driving on the highway cruising at your 70 mph (OK 75 to 80) and start passing cars...certain drivers instinctively speed up to make passing them a bit harder (ex. new 5 series today and Lexus GS300 yesterday), but when they realize it isn't a regular E passing them...they actually slowed down (which I take as a sign of respect for the car...not me).

If the tables were turned and I ran up on a car I knew that had the cojones to surpass the 5.5, then I'd personally give them a universal head nod of approval...luckily there aren't many STOCK cars out there that can leave us in the dust.

Others...well don't slow down (ex. Honda Prelude Max power coverboy this past Friday)...OK I'm 38 and should know better, but I couldn't resist flexing this torquey MF***** and slapping some knowledge into there frontal lobe. It's fun to do on occasion...most of the time I just let them gun it past me and revel in the obnoxious notes coming from their exhaust.

I am not sure why we are getting so worked up over someone having their car pose as an AMG 55? We should consider ourselves fortunate to have a vehicle to which many people aspire to have, even if it means dressing up their vehicle to look like an AMG 55. I am not sure if we all work twice as hard as everyone giving us the deserving rights to have an AMG 55. There are many people who walk around with fake Louis Vuttons but that does not make them any less deserving as those who can afford the real one. In others, be glad that you can afford to have an authentic AMG 55 be even more proud that many people aspire to have what you drive, even if it means posing. However, if you do come across someone in an MB dressed up to be an AMG 55 then truly let them see the power of a real AMG 55 so they can truly be at awe?

ADX...getting "worked up" connotes that it is putting a level stress into our lives...it doesn't...to me it is just an observation of what happens all around us in other facets of our everyday lives...insecurities abound and status to some folks or an image that they think they need to portray means more to them than being true to themselves.

I personally roll my eyes and move on...unless a specific poser is arrogant enough to get delusional and really think they have an AMG. Even then, that should only last 5-10 seconds max (the schooling of the AMG poser) and then you move on with our lives.

Life is too short...and I am thankful

I do agree with AMGFan with anyone posing and show signs of arrogance then, show them what it is truly like to drive an AMG 55 by smoking them. Otherwise, be proud to be one of the few to have an AMG 55 and move on.

I myself don't see any problems with it. They buy the cars themselves with their own $$. they can do whatever they wanna do with the cars. I am not sure why some people have problems with it. E320/E500 is still your family and they're your lil brothers. I think it's okay if they wanna be like the big brother E55. Again, it's their cars.

I just see some E55 ppl get pissed off because they want to show that E55 is the best, they wanna show that they spent $90k++ and they thought they deserve to be distinguished. That's what I thought so before and I feel sorry. When it comes to an end, people just see that E320/500/55 is just same flat W211. I owned C32 before and thought that the car will show off among others.. But when I stand to my friend's car old and less expensive E-Class (W210) or C320 carlsson loaded, damn.... nobody gave a **** to my car. They just thought C is still C. E is better, and so on.... Do you proud if you can beat Bimmer, GS, etc? but you know that you're not a real racer. so nothing's cool bout it.

Nobody said anything about professing to be a "real racer." We drive our cars on the highway and city boulevards and not on a track. It doesn't **** me off that they don't recognize that I have an AMG, but the fact that someone speeds up (in the far right "slow" lane) to prevent me from passing them.

I have too much stuff going in my life to worry about how much the next guy spent on their car...to each his own. Bro...when I've bitten off more than I can chew (i.e. getting dusted by a stronger car), I think its cool and if their cool enough to slow down and talk to me, then I'd give them a thumbs up and let them know I can appreciate a nice ride.

Just my opinion and I can respect yours.

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
I have been on both sides of this argument. When I was poor and living off my parents I couldn't afford to have the fastest best coolest car but that didn't stop me from making what I did have cooler. Dual exhaust, mags, 60 series tires (that was as wide as they got in the 70's), upgrades of everything I could afford helped me to enjoy my car. The key word is "enjoy".

My feeling is that we should be tolerant of other attitudes, you might be in a less fortunate position one of these days. Be thankful that you can afford the best.

What is hte purpose of them putting on the badging though? Is it so they enjoy teh car more, or to somehow impress a less knowledgable person ( a girl maybe?) Thats why I look down upon it. They can do it all they want, but it also doesnt stop me from not approving of it. My AMG is still on the way. I had my GS400 and will sell it soon, and I STILL hated every time i saw an M badge on a car that wasnt an M..and the amg badge on an nonamg car.
It had nothing to do with me wanting to look better than them, bc I didnt have an amg..but rather they were trying to be somethign they werent. I hate fake people. Instead they should be comfortable with the fact that they dont drive an AMG an aspire to purchase one down the road.
