My car is due for the fuel pump replacement due to low fuel pressure and gas smell in the car occasionally.
The consensus is that the fuel sender unit, wiring harness etc. needs to be replaced along with fuel pump.
I’ve hit a roadblock while ordering the parts. My car is a Japanese Spec 2005 E55 Wagon.
The fuel sender unit part number according to my local dealer is 2114705094 however on FCP and other online parts stores, the part number recommended is 2114706494.
Are the part numbers any different for a wagon or a Japanese spec car?
Adding to my confusion is that both these part numbers have different names
2114706494 is - tank inner module
2114705094 is - Fuel delivery module
The MB naming convention for the fuel system parts sucks. That is why I refer to them as "fuel pumps" (aka delivery module) and "fuel filter/regulator" (aka delivery unit or tank inner module). Yes, foreign cars could have different part numbers.
Go to mbepc.net. Search by VIN (you may have to refresh the page to get it to load properly). This will bring up your vehicle's data card. In the description at top (e.g. S211.076) there will be a hyperlink that will take you to the parts listing for your car. Go to the section on the fuel system. There may be more than one page for the fuel system; if so, the page selection is at the top of the exploded view. May be multiple part numbers listed (and for the fuel pumps and filter/regulators there are). If a part number says "Replaced by" then go to the replacement part number (indicates a modification during production). You will also see "+001 part number" or "+002 part number". That means you will need one each of one additional part and two each of another additional part in order to be able to use the upgraded parts. On the W211, it was adapter cables as the new fuel pumps and filter/regulator had different electrical connections plus a foam pad intended to prevent the harness from shorting out against the metal lid over the fuel pumps. Be advised if you upgrade on one side you may have to upgrade on the other side; do not expect to "mix and match". On the W211 E55, there are three generations of fuel filter/regulators and two generations of fuel pumps. The 3rd gen fuel filter/regulator will only work with the 2nd generation fuel pumps due to different mechanical connections in the tank and electrical connections outside of the tank. Ensure your parts will work before digging into the fuel tank...
You can post your VIN and ask someone to give you the part numbers but you will do better by looking them up yourself and learning the system.
per EPC your feed unit part nb is 211 470 17 94 replaced by 211 470 00 00 (includes fuel pumps), you have the old style lines fittings.
your matching delivery unit (includes fuel filter and pressure sensor/valve) has to be 211 470 50 94 updated from 17 41 and 23 94 (old style lines fittings)
if you want to use the new style lines fittings which is 211 470 64 94 delivery unit you should also change your feed unit to the corresponding part nb.
You might need to change the wiring harness of the fuel pump to the 2006 model, which has two relays instead of one. In that case you need the Ecu flashed as well.
I've done this on my 2005 E55, since of the dual pumps was broken and the car didn't have 5.3 bar fuel pressure under load.

Thanks @Robert AMG , appreciate you looking this up for me as is matched with recommended part number from the dealer, 2114705094 seems to be the right.
Just to understand better, if the newer style part 2114706494 was to be used, what would be the additional changes required. Are there any advantages and is it worth the effort making those additional changes? The local Mercedes dealer here wants to stick by the rule book and says will not use any other part other than what’s showing on their system.
if you want to use the newer 64 94 you will have to change also the other side fuel pumps cause the fittings of the lines/pipes will not work on the old pumps fittings, i don't see any benefit from switching to the newer assembly just stick with the dealer recommendations.
US-spec car. Note fuel filter/regulator 64-94 is used with fuel pumps 00-00 plus two each adapter cables. Since this was for my US-spec car built in March of 2005, it does not exactly match your car. See if the dealer's parts tech will bring this up on screen and reassure yourself 'cause it ain't cheap. Don't forget to replace and, highly recommended, replace the relay with an upgraded 70-amp relay. I've posted on this under "E55 fuel pump relay and fuse maintenance".

Thanks @bbirdwell . Now I’m more confused because of the dealers quotation. Here are the parts
2114700000 new type pump 2114705094 the older style sender unit with filter
2114405508 cable harness
2114705364 line
2024766526 hose fuel
2304768726 hose fuel (1meter)
2115400700 electrical wiring harness
2114700359 activated charcoal filter
….consumables like nuts, seals etc.
From the above I understand that the fuel pump/delivery module is the newer type but the fuel sender unit is the older type. Is the above parts list right? Something doesn’t seem right on the part numbers I received from the dealer.
if you want to change only the side that includes the filter and pressure sensor just buy the 50 94.
if you want to change also the side of the fuel pumps you can buy only the 17 94 with the 50 94 (both old style).
if you want to upgrade to the newer style you will need the 64 94 as filter assembly with the 00 00 pumps assembly plus all the wiring and staff mentioned up in the epc photo that start with +,
and as they told you also to upgrade the relay.
attached is epc data according to your vin.

Very clear now. The dealer mixed up the old and new parts. I’ll be visiting again this week to order the parts. The dealer here has never sounded confident whenever my car goes in for any job, they make it sound so complicated.
If they understood the new parts required well, I’ll upgrade to the newer style or else just stick with the existing left style pump and filter.
