W211 seat airbag removal?

I am trying to replace the air bladders in my 2006 E55. I need to drill out the rivets holding the brackets in, but the airbag is in the way, What is the correct method to remove it?

You need to do a thorough search here for that as I know I have seen it detailed by someone that documented what they did to do the bladder replacements.

I did do a search. The car that they posted on was a 2003. The 2006 model is different.

On the earlier car the plates that hold the bladders are held in by screws. The later car they are pop riveted into the seat frame in 3 places per side. The side airbag is also pop riveted in place.

I managed to sort it out. I still need to pick up a few more pop rivets.

The post I saw was about drilling out rivets. I looked quickly just now and could not find it.

I really do try to search thoroughly before posting. I looked for over 30 minutes and could not find exactly what I was looking for. Not a lot posted about how to remove the seat airbags (that I could find anyway). It ended up being held on by two pop rivets. I do not understand why pop rivets are used instead of bolts, but that is how mine was.....

So, what issues did you have and how did you resolve it?

All of this was about changing out the left bolster air bladder (driver side).

I couldn't get my head wrapped around the idea that the seat airbag was pop riveted in place (seems like bolts would be the proper fastener). I thought for sure if I drilled them out someone would tell me there was a better/correct way to remove them. I also did not have the correct rivet size on hand, so that complicated matters. If the later cars used screws to hold in the bladder backets I would have save hours of messing around with rivets. Oh well, next time it will be easier ;-)

Okay, thanks for the clarification. I have not heard of anyone using a bolt/screw to replace the rivets.
