How do I disconnect the headlights always on
Greeting
I have a 1999 E430, I bought it from a friend in Canada and it not only has daytime running lights but the headlight that are on all the time driving.
Does anyone know how to disconnect the Canadian hassle of always having my headlights on ...
however I do like using them during the day on friday.
thanks in advance, K

I believe that your model year has either a different headlight relay or a different wiring harness to enable the full daytime running lights. Check with your dealership on difference of parts, I believe it is listed in the parts system.
p.s. Phil Smart knows a lot about importing Canadian cars.

I believe the dealer needs/can reprogram it for you. Some people in the states do the opposite and have theirs programmed to always be on like yours is now.

2004 E55 tectite grey/charcoal
Personally I like having mine on all the time. My car is tectite grey. I think the color blends in too much with the road. The first week I had the car I didn't have the lights on in the daytime and I had three different vehicles try to pull out in front of me. I switched the lights on all the time and it hasn't happened since. Might be coincidence but I doubt it.

It really is proven to work.. I have an older car and the lights are not on as default and there are always cars pulling in front of me, cutting me off.. Then I turn the lights on and it stops.. It is cut and dry.

I know Canadian W210s can use the US light switch which will have the DRL disabled.
I do not like DRL as I sometimes have to idle with the engine running and I hate the needless attention the lights draw.
This is particular useful in not very safe neighbourhood and/or while waiting for someone at a parking space. With the DRL always on, people will think I'm about to leave, very annoying.
