pulled the thread boss right out of the body. was hoping this was an issue that only affected E55's but it's finally reached me. as much as I could do the work myself...I feel it's time to just drop the E63 off and have a bunch of other things done while it's in there.

I had a similar issue with my first E63, as it felt like the rear end was shifting going over bump on the highway. So, I took it in, told then what I believe was the issue and I was dead on.
They removed the entire rear subframe and replaced the bushing and the bolts under warranty. And my rear tire wear issue was fixed as well. It isn't the fix that expensive, but the labor.

do you recall if the body threads pulled away from the sheet metal like it did here? if so, do you know if they cut a hole and used a washer and nut like others have done? I'm just curious on what the Mercedes approved fix is.

The dealership didn't drill or cut any holes, a few of my bolts were sheared off, causing the subframe to move around, at speed over bumps dramatically effecting rear tire wear. My bolts didn't pull out of the body like yours did.
Mercedes dropped the exhaust, disconnected the drift shaft and dropped the entire rear subframe with the rear suspension attached. They used an extractor tool to get the sheared bolt out of the body, replaced all four subframe bushings and bolts and reinstalled everything.
I think that quoted price was around $1600, but it was covered under warranty. If you have to cut an excess hole, make sure that it is welding back up, as any moisture will start rusting the bolts. And the issue may end up repeating itself.

When you lifted your car did the subframe just sag like that, or did you have to pry it down to see the broken bolt. I'm suspicious mine might be broken but when I have the car on a two-post lift everything seems in order.

Very easy fix. Cutting the holes and welding back up is really the hard part. Throw some under coating on it nobody is the wiser and it will be much stronger.
