The New ContiSportContact 2 Vmax - World's Fastest Road Tire

This tire is the world's first road tire approved for speeds up to 220mph/360kmh. The ContiSportContact 2 Vmax was especially developed for ultra high-speed cars like Porsche and Ferrari. This tire is available in four sizes.

The starting point for this high-tech tire was the already proven ContiSportContact 2. To improve high-speed capability, the Continental engineers incorporated more tread grooves to attain maximum cooling of the ContiSportContact 2 Vmax tire, even when traveling at highest speeds. Furthermore, increased proportion of negative tread provides the driver with better handling on wet roads.

"The ContiSportContact 2 Vmax truly represents innovation and advanced technology in one. Not only that this tire is the first road tire approved for speeds up to 220mph/360kmh worldwide, its dynamic design also completes the modern ContiSportContact 2 Vmax style of today's sports cars," said Joe Maher, CTNA's product planning & brand development manager. "The ContiSportContact 2 Vmax is one more example of Continental's continued commitment to provide high quality and leading edge products to the North American market."

The ContiSportContact 2 Vmax comes in the following four sizes:

245/35 ZR 19
275/30 ZR 19
235/35 ZR 19
315/25 ZR 19

What do you think?
Better than PS2 ?

I have yet to see a good review on a Continental tire on this board. The original SportContacts on my E430 were junk. Both the Eagle F1's and Michelins were far superior. I would let someone else be the first to try them. Besides, does anyone here need a tire rated beyond the "Y" designation (186 mph plus)?

There is a story about the tire in the Nov issue of Sports Car International.

Basically the story is a Vmax "run what you brung" between several Porsche and Mercedes Tuners. Brabus, Carlsson and Loriner brought cars. With the tires, the tuners can safely remove all chip speed limits for true Vmax or top speed, so your friendly 560hp CK55 RS Carlsson tuned E55 becomes a 200mph missle.

Here are some of the results of the test carried out at Nardo, a high speed constant bend track.

Carlsson CK55 RS (560 hp) (E55)
196.6 mph (would be faster straight level road)

Carlsson SL55 (560 hp)
208 mph (on autobahn)

Brabus CLK K8 (550 hp)(CLK55)
202 mph (on autobahn)

Lorinser GS03 (550 hp)(SL600)
190.2 mph (widebody kit)

Top Dog and Runner Up goes to

9ff (702 hp)(996 Turbo)
231.3 mph and

TechArt GT Street S (646 hp)(996 Turbo)
224.3 mph

There is also another story on the tire in the July 911 & Porsche World.

BTW, the Vmax record holder for fastest street legal tuner car is held by the 920 hp Callaway Corvette Sledgehammer, which reached 255 mph at the Ohio TRC track in 1989! Wonder what kind of mileage that beast got?

Yep, my Continentals sucked really bad but then again, IMHO, the Goodyear GS-D3's weren't too far behind in the those tires suck catagory.

What didn't you like about the F1's? They were a night and day difference over the Conti's. 'Course, anything round was an improvement.

The F1s howled at low speeds and over certain types of road surfaces, concrete bridges with drainage grooves, they sounded as if they were running flat. Off the line grip was much better than the Conti's but the treadwear was considerably less. I just would not go back to the GSD3's again. They were an underperformer given the price.

After taking the Conti's off my E55 and putting PS2's on, I can't imagine going back to a company that makes those junk tires. Worst I've ever driven on a high performance car. The PS2's are in another league. If all you think of is straight line performance "maybe" they're good. But they handle like crap. The PS2's made the car handle like I had hoped it would and now can.

I did notice that about the F1's, but I don't see a lot smooth concrete so I didn't count that against them too much. The PS2's also "whine" on concrete, but not as bad. The Continentals were far worse in every other catagory. Hopefully, these new Conti's are better.
