Replacing AC Compressor pulley

My E55's crank pulley grenaded for reasons unknown and took out several components including the AC compressor pulley (plus 2x rad fan blades, idler pulley & sc belt)

Has anyone replaced the AC pulley/clutch while it's still installed and is it a pain ?

I found a new clutch+pulley on ebay for $60 and wondering what sort of fun I'm in for.

for.

I dont believe its hard and when you remove the fan+shroud, you should probably have enough room to do so. I think its only 1 bolt and you need a special tool to hold it.

Ooh nice - although someone in the comments said they had to customize it with new holes for their E350. I already ordered the ebay socket style one and will report back how it goes.

I did this recently. Fun fact, you can get away without tightening the pulley bolt because the compressor spins in the right direction that causes it to tighten on its own.

I got my old broken one off with vice grips and put the new one on by hand. The new tool wasn't here yet but I was curious if my compressor was still good or if I truly was lucky enough that it was just the pulley. So i put the belt on and started the car to see if the compressor worked. It worked.

When the special tool arrived and I tried to tighten down the pulley bolt, it was already tight.

So the tool is necessary to get the old one off, really. But mine had exploded so the tool was useless for that, which is why huge vice grips came in handy.

Great thread!

When checking my pulleys I hear a bit of a grinding sound coming from the AC. AC itself is working fine. Not sure if this noise is normal.
I was thinking to start simple by checking/replacing the pulley bearing.

- Does anyone have the number or specs of the bearing?
My parts shop has 2 sizes: outside diameter 52mm, inside 35mm. One has a height of 22mm the other 12mm. (compressor A0012301211, pulley A0002341312, MB W211, E320)

- I would be interested where to find the extractor tool in Europe.
I can find this, but I am not sure it would work?

Friend needs help with replacing the A/C clutch pulley, any updates as to clutch part number and the appropriate tools needed? Wondering if there are any better options available now
Thanks

Least expensive is from AutohausAZ, its on sale. Part# 0002341312. No other options that i could find. Mine just took a **** this morning. I had thought it was the waterpump, until I saw the ac pulley wobbling like crazy.
