E55 or E 55
I got a new trunk emblem for my CLK55, and I was looking through the work instructions and noticed precise measurements for placement of each letter in the emblem and for the AMG emblem as well. I had always thought that the emblem comes properly spaced when delivered as a part, and only had to be transferred straight to the trunk. I learned that this is NOT the case.
I looked at the emblem on the backing paper and it was spaced like: "CLK55". I looked at the back of my CLK and it is spaced: "CLK 55" and that is how the dimensions in the work instructions come out as well. So I got curious as to whether this was isolated, and checked my E55 and it is spaced like... "E 55".
So I propose that we now on refer to our cars as they are labeled... the "E 55".
Someone should also notify MBUSA that all their marketing info is incorrect.
p.s. might also be a quick way to spot posers, if their emblems say something like "CLK55" or "E55". Then we know they are either a poser or had body work done by a lousy body shop (lousy body shop in itself being an oxymoron).

Officially it is "E 55 AMG"!
It has always been like that on Mercedes cars since 1994 - for the most part. All the cars from the factory usually have some amount of space between the class letter and the engine size. Not just AMG cars but:
S 500
CL 500
E 320
SLK 230
ML 320
G 500
C 230K
(the German Mercedes website has them listed as above)
Where did you find the "work instructions"?
